WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 170, "A New Rasengan," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

In the latest episode of the Boruto anime, Naruto's son is trying desperately to level up so he can exact revenge on Deepa for almost killing Mitsuki. Boruto and Sarada were badly beaten in that fight, leading to her training with Sasuke and Boruto aiming to upgrade his Rasengan under the dutiful eye of Kakashi.

However, his sensei decides that if Boruto really is to test his latest power-up out, it'll have to be against a moving target. That target turns out to be one of the kid's most inhuman enemies: Shojoji, the cannibal.

Shojoji is famous for his part in the Mujina Bandits Arc and is someone that Boruto is repulsed by. The reason is for this is the Corpse Clone technique, which allows Shojoji to eat his opponent, devouring their brains so he can shapeshift into them and hide in plain sight. He can also harness their chakra abilities and uses their powers, too, which is why Boruto knows he's a handful according to who he's eaten.

When they last fought, Shojoji showed no mercy, haven eaten his general Tsukiyo earlier on to cover his identity up. The fact he could fake being Tsukiyo and not care about being a cannibal shows Shojoji has no heart at all. He even made it clear he wanted to put condiments on Boruto's brains for this esteemed meal. For the bank robber, it's the perfect way of sticking it to Konoha as he despises how the village didn't make him a priority fugitive. Thinking himself to be on par with the likes of Orochimaru, he has a vendetta against Naruto and making Boruto his next meal is the ideal way to spite the Hokage.

What troubled Boruto in their battle was Shojoji's Wind Release style. He didn't expect someone this oversized to move so fast to accompany his moves. Shojoji also harnessed the Lightning Release after eating Tsukiyo, and in addition to having quick reflexes and a body that can absorb many hits, he can even use shadow manipulation (to an extent) like Shikamaru's Nara clan.

Factoring all this in, as well as him being able to perform one-handed seals, and he's a sizeable threat. Luckily, when Boruto's weak Rasengan couldn't finish off the thief back then, Sarada and Mitsuki were there to ambush and take Shojoji in. However, Boruto will be on his own in this rematch as Kakashi wants him to prove what his improved Rasengan can do.

It'll have to be much stronger than last time as Shojoji took the hit and kept moving forward. But thanks to Shikadai, Boruto believes he's concentrated his focus and chakra to make it more powerful. The fact that a boulder was shattered hints he's ready, but we didn't actually see the move.

This is why Kakashi has the Konoha police bring Shojoji to a military training facility for a Round Two, knowing the villain has been dying for revenge and will be a better opponent than a mere rock. Fighting alone, Boruto will have to really step things up to take on one of his deadliest litmus tests yet.
