Boruto's Boruto Uzumaki is a controversial and hotly debated character, partially because he is so much different than his father, Naruto Uzumaki, but also because the nature of his future is both up for debate and potentially calamitous. However, it is Boruto's personality that is the catalyst for all of these potential occurrences and his personality carries many flaws.
While Boruto's father was a tragic character who turned hardship into compassion and success, Boruto's life began much differently and his personality reflects this. Boruto is arrogant, self-righteous, and he is prone to taking the easy way out of things. Some of Boruto's most controversial behaviors have come from the flaws that set him apart from his father and the other shinobi.
10 Boruto Is Remorseless
Boruto Uzumaki has been known to do some questionable things and he does not always take accountability for them or even apologize. He is often remorseless about doing things against his friends' and family's wishes or advice. He has also used controversial sources of help or done underhanded things to win in a fight, though those things are more forgivable in terms of survival situations.
Boruto will go to great lengths to achieve his goals when he puts his mind to something and that's a problem when his goals are less savory.
9 Boruto Is Willing To Cheat Against Friends
Though Boruto was remorseful about this incident, he was still willing to cheat during the chunin exams. He used a scientific ninja tool to gain the upper hand in multiple phases of the competition and he even used it in his fight against Shikadai Nara, one of his closest and oldest friends.
When Naruto caught wind of this, he stopped the fight and jumped into the ring to expose his son's bad behaviors. However, it did not change the fact that Boruto was willing to cheat to get his father's attention and win when he might not have deserved to.
8 Boruto Is Arrogant
Boruto is a truly competent shinobi. He learns even the most difficult and high-level jutsu incredibly quickly, he is a brilliant strategist for a child, and he is always at the top of his group. However, because of his constant success, he is also incredibly arrogant.
Not only does Boruto think he is always smarter than everyone (including his father, the Seventh Hokage), but he also assumes his strength is enough to get him through every situation and he rarely takes the time to listen to anyone else. He is a sore loser — and he never expects to be the loser.
7 Boruto Is Self-Righteous
Boruto is also quick to judge his father. Naruto is in the wrong for constantly being a no-show for his family, but he must sometimes put his duties as the village's leader and protector before his desires to spend time with family and make his family happy. Boruto does not let this slide, but that makes sense for a child whose father is absent.
However, Boruto is just as quick to have misplaced priorities, hurt others, and do the wrong thing. Even so, Boruto often uses himself as the victim and as the one of higher moral character — often when he is acting out.
6 Boruto Is Prone To Jealousy & Selfishness
Boruto does not like to be outdone, but there have been many situations where he did not come out on top and was not particularly happy about it. He was not the happiest when Himawari got the Byakugan and he did not — though he did try to not take it out on her.
Boruto is often seen being sad over the fact that his father is unable to spend as much time with their family as other parents do for their families. Boruto wants to be on top and he wants to be acknowledged, which was partly the reason why he cheated in the chunin exams.
5 Boruto Takes Things For Granted
Boruto constantly takes his father's power and desire to help people for granted. Though it is a valid criticism for Boruto to want Naruto around more, Naruto is doing all he can. Boruto has been seen to take other things for granted too, such as his friendship with Mitsuki (which ended up leading to a whole rogue-ninja issue) and with Shikadai, who he betrayed during the chunin exams.
Thanks to the time-skip cliffhanger, Boruto fans know that Boruto's life will not always be so easy and carefree, so it would behoove Boruto to stop taking his father and friends for granted while he can.
4 Boruto Is Impulsive To A Fault
Like his father did as a kid, Boruto has a problem with not thinking things all the way through and this leads him to get in over his head on a few occasions. Boruto also has the added benefit of being a much better strategist than his father was at his age.
However, these moments get Boruto into trouble and it is part of the reason he has to deal with Momoshiki and the Karma seal in the first place. Still, his keeping up with Momoshiki was incredibly impressive.
3 Boruto Lacks Respect For Others
It may be because Boruto's father is the Hokage and the strongest shinobi to ever have lived, and it may be because Boruto himself thinks he is one of the most powerful shinobi (potential wise), but Boruto has a bad habit of not being able to respect his friends, family, and higherups.
Most obviously, Boruto is incredibly rude and disrespectful to his father — which some can give Boruto a pass on because of his tumultuous family relationship — but he has also been rude to others, like Kakashi Hatake, the former Hokage.
2 Boruto Does Not Listen To Others
Boruto likes to do things his way, at his own pace, and to the beat of his own drum, but that is not always a good thing — it has gotten him into some dangerous situations as well as gotten him into trouble with the shinobi world. He is often seen blowing off Sarada Uchiha's advice and warnings, as well as those of his parents and mentors.
Boruto does not like to listen to others. He is arrogant and wants to achieve great things thanks to his power and planning. However, it is not always a good outcome.
1 Boruto's Priorities Are Misplaced
There are times when Boruto can be noble and there are times he can be petty. He stands up for his little sister and mother when his dad does things like miss dinner or important family events. However, Boruto is also willing to put shining in the chunin exams over doing what is right or his friend's feelings.
Boruto went rogue to save a friend, but he also took advantage of that same friend's devotion to him. Boruto is full of contradictions, but one thing is certain: he needs to iron out his priorities.
