There's a common belief that the son shouldn't pay for the sins of the father, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Naruto or his son, Boruto. Both individuals have dealt with problems intentionally and unintentionally passed onto them from their respective dads. However, Naruto's past actions have really come back to bite him and Boruto in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

In fact, just about every problem Naruto and Boruto have faced in the new series is a holdover from Naruto or Naruto: Shippuden in one way or another. It seems that the son may never get out from under his father's shadow, but Boruto is never going to quit trying.

10 Kakashi Puts Boruto Through Extreme Training & High-Stakes Battles Just As He Did With Naruto

This first issue is the least fault of Naruto's lack of oversight as Hokage, though one could argue he should have been paying closer attention to his son. This episode begins with Boruto seeking the training of Kakashi Hatake, Naruto's old mentor from his days as a Genin, to become a better shinobi, and Kakashi complies.

After Boruto puts himself through training more grueling than Kakashi intended, Kakashi decides to test Boruto by having him fight a dangerous bandit with rather grotesque powers named Shojoji. Boruto fights Shojoji inside a police facility, and Kakashi promises to reduce Shojoji's sentence if he beats Boruto. Boruto wins, but not without hospitalizing himself. This is definitely among the most bafflingly irresponsible things Kakashi has ever done.

9 Jugo Threatens The Village With The Spread Of His Curse Seal Because Naruto Didn't Handle The Situation Sooner

This won't be the last time fallout from Orochimaru's grotesque experiments has come back to threaten Naruto's village. This time, it involves Jugo, the originator of the mutations that come with Orochimaru's Curse Seal. Jugo's had issues with his uncontrollable outrages since his time with Orochimaru, and this came to a head when he went on a rampage that resulted in him infecting animals with his Curse Seal.

It took Team Konohamaru and Suigetsu to restrain Jugo, but this was worsened when a madman named Tosaka interfered. Tosaka had created his own Curse Seal, but Jugo was able to absorb this energy out of Tosaka and into himself after having finally calmed himself down. That said, Naruto was well aware of Orochimaru's countless inhumane experiments and probably should have kept a closer eye on Jugo.

8 Shin Uchiha Tries To Kill Sarada After Naruto Failed To Keep Orochimaru's Experiments In Check

Another Orochimaru original, Shin Uchiha was a test subject with several Mangekyo Sharingan eyes who sought to form a new Akatsuki and kill Sarada Uchiha. It took the combined strength of Naruto and Sasuke to stop Shin, but it was ultimately Shin's own clones that killed him.

This is a good time to highlight that it seems like, as Hokage, Naruto should probably track down Orochimaru--since he's a "good guy" now--and try to find all these former test subjects and experiments to keep them from blowing up and threatening lives.

7 Mitsuki's Health Issues Are Another Reminder To Naruto Of Orochimaru's Inhumane Experiments

Finally, there is Mitsuki, the clone of Orochimaru, a member of Team Konohamaru and an adopted child of Naruto and Hinata. Mitsuki himself has nothing but good intentions, but the flaws in Orochimaru's cloning process have left Mitsuki with mercurial health.

Thankfully, Orochimaru has taken the lead in helping Mitsuki when his health declines, but it's an ongoing issue that once again shows that Orochimaru's dabbling in unrestricted science will have more consequences in the years to come. Mitsuki's similarities to Orochimaru were obvious, and Naruto should have tracked down Orochimaru immediately upon learning of Mitsuki's origins.

6 New Criminal Groups Emerged Even After Naruto Stopped The Akatsuki

The Full Akatsuki from Naruto

Though the Akatsuki has been disbanded and destroyed, the Shin Uchiha episode shows that it did inspire others to try and continue their mission. Naruto should have expected this and made sure these potential successors didn't cause too much trouble.

There were two other groups, the Ryuha Armament Alliance and Gengo's Enlightened Ones, who sought to use the Akatsuki's tactics to establish a new age of peace that the Shinobi Union couldn't accomplish. While the Shinobi Union is working to keep the peace throughout the lands, it does seem that there are those who are still discontent.

5 The Otsutsuki Clan Emerges After Naruto Saved The World From Kaguya

Kaguya Otsutsuki From Narutosutsuki From Naruto

Perhaps, after the arrival of Kaguya Otsutsuki at the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Konohagakure and the other villages in the Allied Forces should have looked more into that whole Otsutsuki Clan thing to make sure there weren't any running around looking to cause trouble.

Unfortunately for everyone, they didn't, and the Otsutsuki Clan returned during Boruto's shinobi career, and everyone is still suffering for it. Again, this feels like an oversight of everyone in the Shinobi Union, Naruto included.

4 His Hokage Dream Job Puts A Strain On His Family

Naruto as the Seventh Hokage

This one goes back to Naruto's childhood and is at the core of who he is. Naruto Uzumaki always spoke about how he wanted to become Hokage more than anything else, and he achieved his dream. Unfortunately, this role and the responsibilities inherent to it have caused a massive strain on his family. This is most represented in Boruto's rebelliousness and resentment towards his father. Boruto has felt neglected by his father, and it's hard to blame young Boruto for feeling that way.

3 Naruto's Reputation Puts A Lot Of Pressure On Boruto To Live Up To It

Boruto from Boruto and Naruto from Naruto: Shippuden

Another obstacle Naruto, intentionally or otherwise, has thrust upon his son is the reputation of Naruto Uzumaki. In addition to being the Seventh Hokage, Naruto is a war hero and widely known to be one of the most powerful shinobi of all time.

This is a lot of pressure on a young man like Boruto, especially one looking to become a shinobi himself. Again, it's no wonder Boruto is so resentful toward his father.

2 Boruto Prefers Guidance From Sasuke Uchiha Thanks To Naruto's Neglect

Sasuke training Boruto

On a final note of the relationship between Naruto and Boruto, there is Sasuke Uchiha's part in it. Naruto and Sasuke are friends, but Sasuke is also a wandering nomad and lives the life of a rogue. He still seeks to do good and protect Konoha, but he still comes off as an alternative to Naruto. As a result, Boruto has often found himself relating more to Sasuke and has sought his mentorship on several occasions.

1 Naruto Just Let The Tailed Beasts Wander & Now They're Being Hunted

Tailed beasts are divided among the natiosn

After the Fourth Great Shinobi War, the Tailed Beasts, or Bijuu, were left to largely wander around and find their own way. This seems questionable in retrospect, as the Tailed Beasts have shown themselves to be incredibly destructive on their own and the goal of many villains such as the Akatsuki. Naruto has experienced the threat of the Tailed Beasts firsthand, but he, along with the rest of the Allied Forces, just let them wander around since the Fourth Great Shinobi War.

Naturally, this became a problem again when Urashiki Otsutsuki began hunting down the Tailed Beasts, captured Killer Bee and the Eight-Tails, and Shukaku the One-Tailed Beat had to be escorted to a safe place within Konoha.
