Spoilers have leaked regarding the death of a certain pivotal character in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

A recent Daily Dose of Anime Facebook page post revealed that Kawaki kills Boruto in the anime's second to last episode. Included screenshots show Boruto's body with a large, round bloodstain and a shot of Kawaki's blood-streaked face.

Who is Kawaki From Boruto?

Kawaki is Boruto's adopted brother, with whom he shares a close but complicated relationship. Before he came to live with the Uzumaki's, Kara raised him to become a vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki, a malevolent being who wished to cultivate a God Tree and harvest its Chakra fruit for himself. Due to his conflicting emotions about the Otsutsuki clan, he often ends up fighting Boruto, who has a connection to the clan. During the manga's "Code" arc, which the anime is currently adapting, Kawaki attempts to kill Boruto over this, but several members of the Konoha team up to help stop him, including Sasuke. When questioned, Kawaki claims he only did what was necessary for the village's safety.

Based on the manga of the same name, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations premiered in April 2017. Since its debut, it has attained a massive following, as evidenced by the fact that more viewers tuned in to watch Kawaki and Boruto's "Bathroom Battle" on YouTube than Luffy's epic brawl with Kaido in One Piece. However, Naruto fans have also demonstrated mixed feelings towards the series, as shown by reactions to a particular episode with Sasuke fighting a dinosaur. Although this plot point actually originates from Jun Esaka's light novel series, Sasuke's Story: The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust, viewers took it as an opportunity to bash the entire series, with some even claiming that it happened due to a lack of quality control from Masashi Kishimoto, the series' creator.

Boruto Goes on Hiatus

Earlier this month, Boruto: Naruto Next Generation's website announced that the series would go on hiatus after the premiere of Episode 293, which has a planned air date of March 26. This is to be the final episode of Part 1. However, Pierrot confirmed that Part II is greenlit for production. At the time of writing, the studio has yet to reveal a release window for the anime's second part.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is available to stream on Hulu. The manga is available in English from VIZ Media.
