Naruto comes to terms with the aftermath of his battle with Isshiki Ōtsutsuki in a new Boruto: Naruto Next Generations clip.

SPOILERS FOR BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS ANIME FOLLOW:

The clip comes from the latest episode of the series and was released online by Crunchyroll. Naruto and Sasuke are back in Konohagakure, when Sakura's medical examination confirms what Naruto already felt: now that Kurama is gone, the Hokage can no longer tap into the near-limitless reserve of chakra that he has utilized to power his abilities ever since he was genin, which substantially reduces his overall fighting ability. Sasuke has also the lost the use of his Rinnegan, thanks to the surprise attack he received in the previous episode, which means the Hidden Leaf Village's two strongest shinobi have both received massive reductions to their power. Naruto notes his feelings of loss, stating that without Kurama, he feels like he has a hole inside of him.

The full episode, "219: Return" is now available to stream on Crunchyroll. The episode was directed by Tazumi Mukaiyama, who has previously directed multiple episodes of Boruto, and has also worked on shows such as Black Clover, Moriarty the Patriot and Pokemon.

The battle with Isshiki marks the point in the Boruto manga where Naruto's original author, Masashi Kishimoto, returned to the franchise he created to handle writing duties again, and many longtime fans of the series have noted that this is where both the Boruto manga and anime begin to feel more like the classic Naruto series. Prior to this point, the series had been written by Ukyo Kodachi, who assisted Kishimoto with the screenplay for Boruto: Naruto the Movie, and has also worked on the Macross and Fate: Grand Order franchises.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is a sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's original Naruto manga, which is one of the top 10 best-selling manga series of all time. The series focuses on Boruto, the teenage son of Naruto and Hinata. Boruto has become a successful series in its own right, managing to sell over 1 million copies within its first year of publication. The anime adaptation of the series premiered in 2017 and is primarily produced by studio Pierrot, which also animated both the original Naruto anime, as well as the Shippuden continuation series.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is available for streaming on Hulu and Crunchyroll, with the latter simulcasting new episodes as they air in Japan. The manga for the series is localized into English and distributed internationally by VIZ Media.
