WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Vol. 9, by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto and Ukyo Kodachi, now available in English from Viz Media.

The latest English-language volume of Boruto collects chapters #32 to 35, focusing on Jigen's search for the vessel, Kawaki, in Konoha. The last volume found Delta breaching the village to hunt the boy down, only to run into Naruto and Boruto, both of whom are trying to protect Kawaki.

In the ninth volume, though, we discover Kara and Jigen aren't your typical terrorist group. They have big plans not just for Kawaki, but for the planet as a whole as there's a massive connection to the Ōtsutsuki Clan from the Naruto series that pops up.

In Vol. 9, Naruto and Delta go toe-to-toe, and it's here we learn just how advanced Kara is in terms of tech. Delta's a walking, talking science conundrum who can absorb chakra and special moves from the Hokage. She's also got energy blasts that could hurt his regenerative abilities. However, Naruto overloads her with Rasengans and after dropping her, just when it seems she'll be taken prisoner, she self-destructs. At this point, Naruto knows Jigen's crew are some of the deadliest warriors he'll face, even topping the Akatsuki.

Kawaki bonds with Naruto's family as well, making it very personal the way the leader looks after him. In fact, Kawaki sacrifices his arm in the battle to save Naruto and his daughter, Himawari, which results in him getting a prosthetic linked to Naruto's chakra. Imbued with the Hokage's essence, Kawaki eventually speaks to Kurama, the Nine-Tails Fox held inside the leader, and the beast convinces Kawaki that Naruto will treat him like a son. He eventually warms to Naruto's family, accepting Boruto not just as a training partner but as a brother.

While that's great news for Naruto, the Hokage is still in massive danger. Delta's drones return home and we see Amado reprogramming another one of her. Basically, it's a spare Delta and with other clones around, Jigen's chief scientist has soldiers waiting to be unleashed. In Delta's case, she wants revenge and doesn't care how many copies of her exist; she'll just keep trying as she can't look like a failure in front of teammates such as Boro.

Koji Kashin's mystery deepens because seeing as the Kara hitman can penetrate Konoha's barriers, he must originate from there. But the way he stalls and doesn't intervene in Delta's beatdown leaves us curious as to his true allegiance. He and Amado paint shady figures and Jigen is taking note because he can tell there's dissent in the ranks. It's something he doesn't want to address right now, which leads to a finale in which he actually teleports to a secret dimension to drain a Ten-Tails. We see Jigen turning into a horned alien, but luckily, Sasuke's found this hole and is spying on the villain.

Sasuke discovers that just as Momoshiki and Kinshiki came as a pair, Kaguya and Jigen might have arrived as partners, too. Sasuke's stunned as he thought the aliens were no more but this leaves him wondering which other Ōtsutsuki members arrived on the planet and what their real goal is. He and Naruto almost died fighting Kaguya so for the first time ever, we see Sasuke panicking and afraid as Jigen toys with the Ten-Tails like a pet, hinting that another apocalypse is coming.
