As the Boruto series kicked off, fans were intrigued by how different the kid was from the Hokage. He wasn't as bratty as Naruto when the latter was a teen in the Hidden Leaf, but Boruto was still quite a handful. He was a lot more pampered and spoiled rotten, which was understandable as Konoha achieved peace with the other shinobi nations, gifting these teens luxuries and liberties like never before.
However, that led to conflict with him and his father, who wanted him to be less egotistical and more honorable. That's not to say Boruto didn't have a code, but he preferred to break rules like Sasuke, and take shortcuts in things like the ninja exams. Luckily, they mended fences and got on the same page, with Chapter 75 coincidentally revealing they share a disastrous flaw.
Naruto and Boruto Are Both Too Trusting
Naruto has always been trusting, which is why villains initially duped him back in the day. However, this positive energy caused him to redeem the likes of Obito and Nagato, reinforcing how big his heart was. Boruto has taken up this trait from his father, but admittedly, it's caused them both to be too naive.
The problem arises when Shikamaru wants to confirm whether the things Amado's been telling them are true. The ex-Kara scientist is spilling the beans on the past Ōtsutsuki threat in Shibai, how he's cloned his daughter via Delta and linked her to Kawaki, and why her resurrection was the reason he worked for Isshiki in the first place. Shikamaru quickly uses Eida and her all-seeing vision, aka the Senrigan, to trace back the last 16 years. It's a lie detector of sorts, but sadly, Naruto and Boruto don't approve. Eida corroborates the evidence anyway, with Shikamaru warning they can't be lax here.
Boruto Realizes He Has to Be Cutthroat
Thankfully, Boruto has Momoshiki in his mind, who reconciles and verifies the truth about the alien DNA that Amado mentions. Everything's copacetic regarding the Ōtsutsuki genetics he mined for Kara, but he's lying about Eida. Her love trance isn't an Ōtsutsuki trait, so this alerts Boruto, who now has to keep monitoring Amado for more lies and secrets. It's a good thing Momoshiki is there as this unofficial partner, honestly, because they can't afford to be deceived.
Code is coming for war, and he could unleash more of his Ōtsutsuki power. Plus, there's no telling if Daemon and Eida will turn on them, or if Amado has other plans cooking. The point is, for Naruto -- especially as a leader -- to just assume Amado is telling the truth is stupid. This isn't something Sasuke or Kakashi would let fly because it's a game of inches, and any bad intel could lead to massive death and destruction. Naruto should know better as he's a seasoned Hokage, which leaves Boruto accepting he has to be cold like Shikamaru if he wants to protect his people.
