WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 165, "The Quadruplets' Duty," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

As much as the Boruto anime has positioned the ninjas from the Land of the Haze as villains, you can't help but sympathize with them. Their land wasn't treated like others following Naruto's ninja alliance and as a result, it still continues to suffer. It's why the quadruplets are now stealing the Hashirama Cell. They care if it's sold to terrorists as all they want is money to rebuild their region.

However, it requires a lot of sacrifices, evidenced when we finally learn how Yoruga died -- an entire debacle that framed Boruto for Queen Sakuya's murder in the Land of Silence.

Team 7 found Yoruga's withered body at the site but we never got details into what actually happened, with many wondering if he fell out with his siblings and they killed him. But as the arc rolled on, we saw how loyal and dutiful they were, so it had to be something more. Now, we discover they were trailing Boruto's squad from the time they started hunting the DNA, looking to piggyback on the search and steal it from them. When the four brothers realized Sakuya's castle held the weapon, though, they didn't know they'd be kickstarting Yoruga's demise.

In a flashback, they encounter a giant impenetrable shield forming a dome around the castle. Yoruga, however, admits it's his time to step up, making the ultimate sacrifice in the process. His forbidden jutsu is the "Afterlife Opening Gate" which allows users to pass through a gateway to anywhere their heart desires. Yoruga, though, isn't going through; he merely opens it for his siblings to pass and this drains him -- aging him to the point that his frail body is left lifeless.

His brothers don't even have time to mourn as they have to stick to their mission. He made it clear it's what he wanted, setting the tone for what's to come later. Yoruga left them with an earring and asked them to bury it under a pear tree at the orphanage they were raised. To makes things all the more heartbreaking, we keep seeing them cutting a peach -- their favorite and only food they had when they were poor -- and splitting it four ways. Thus, this tragic story is similar to Nagato, Yahiko and Konan -- the orphans Jiraiya raised in a poverty-stricken land, not knowing they'd become Akatsuki and Pain.

Unfortunately, Yūga would go on to die using his golem technique in the last episode as his remaining brothers fled, so as Asuka and Hiruga remember Yoruga's death, which they were present for, you feel for them admitting they can only split the peach two ways. They sense Yūga's gone, and as Asaka heads off, with Hiruga staying behind to thwart Team 7's pursuit, he remembers Yoruga for being a fine leader and example. That sacrifice also inspires him to put aside differences with Boruto's crew for now as he realizes the bloodthirsty Deepa is hunting his brother, which could ruin everything his siblings died for.
