Kevin Hart has been cast as Roland, a former Crimson Lance member and veteran fighter, for Lionsgate's upcoming Borderlands movie.
"I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin," director Eli Roth said in a statement. "Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland."
"Kevin has been behind some of the world's biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world's best-selling video games," Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane added. "We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn't be in better creative hands."
The Borderlands film is expected to be a loose adaptation of the Gearbox Software, Telltale Games and 2K Games franchise, which constitutes a set of role-playing first-person shooters set on the planet Pandora. After being ravaged and abandoned by larger corporations in search of treasure, the left-behind workforce take over the planet and turn it into a lawless land. However, following the discovery of mystical Vaults, the corporations return to the planet to plunder its wealth.
Hart joins Cate Blanchett, who was cast as Lilith in May 2020.
Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands stars Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett. The film has yet to receive a release date.
