Thor: Ragnarok's Cate Blanchett is in talks to join the Borderlands film.

According to Variety, Blanchett is eyeing the role of Lilith, one of the main protagonists of the franchise. In the video game series, Lilith is one of six women in the galaxy who belongs to the "siren" class and has superhuman powers.

Eli Roth will be directing the film for Lionsgate, with Avi and Ari Arad producing. Craig Mazin, who is currently developing The Last of Us series of HBO, has written the latest script.

Borderlands is a role-playing first-person shooter franchise that is set on the planet Pandora. After being ravaged and abandoned by larger corporations in search of treasure, the left-behind workforce take over the planet and turn it into a lawless land. However, following the discovery of mystical Vaults, the corporations return to the planet to plunder its wealth.

Developed Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, the first Borderlands games launched in 2009. That was followed by Borderlands 2 in 2012, The Pre-Sequel in 2014 and Borderlands 3 in 2019. Over 50 million copies of the games have been sold, earning over $1 billion in revenue.
