Five years after the release of the massively popular first-person shooter Borderlands 2, developer Gearbox Software has officially announced a follow-up sequel.

Unveiled at PAX East today, Gearbox and publisher 2K games have released the first trailer for Borderlands 3, teasing a return to the cel-shaded sci-fi world of the previous games, filled with deadly, well-armed scavengers, monsters and killer robots.

Noted for its pitch black, gleefully irreverent humor and wide array of weapons used by players to navigate the 29th century world of Pandora, the trailer shows the bright, colorful setting while promising 1 billion guns for players to choose from, including a nonsensical gun with robotic legs, with all the requisite mayhem set to a killer sax solo.

While additional details about the game itself have been kept under wraps by the developers at this time, the trailer promises more info to come regarding the upcoming title via its official website on Wednesday, April 3.

Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, Borderlands 3 currently does not have an officially announced release date and the consoles it will target for release have not been revealed.
