DC fans continue to debate whether Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt should play Booster Gold in the DC Universe.Since James Gunn took over as co-CEO of DC Studios, fans have pitched which DC characters his Guardians of the Galaxy cast members could play. Many have suggested Pratt would be perfect for the role of Booster Gold, DC's time traveling football star. However, other fans have argued Pratt would be a terrible choice for the role, claiming the actor does not have enough charisma. Additionally, fans against the casting have pointed out that Booster Gold is a college student in the comics, making the character too young for Pratt.
After assuming his new position, the DC Studios boss surprisingly revealed Booster Gold was the most highly requested hero when he asked fans what characters they'd most like to see in the DCU. However, Gunn noted that the fan vote does not actually mean anything for his plans for the franchise, as he is not creating stories based on what the fans want to see most.
As the announcement of Gunn and Safran's DCU slate looms, the filmmaker-turned-studio head has teased he will likely work with the cast of his Guardians of the Galaxy movies again. "This cast are like my family," Gunn said. "I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again." Out of the listed actors, Gunn already all but officially confirmed Mantis actor Klementieff will have a role in the DCU when he responded to a fan on Twitter, saying, "Pom's always a part of our plans!"
James Gunn Finishes With Marvel Studios
Before Gunn potentially moves forward with his favorite group of Marvel actors in the DCU, he has to finish his work on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which teases an emotional ending to his trilogy. Gunn has earned praise for creating fun stories with big emotional stakes throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it appears that Vol. 3 will continue that trend.
The filmmaker stated that the trilogy capper was "torture" to make compared to other projects, including the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. "It's a big movie, and it's so different from the special because the special is so wacky and insane," Gunn said. "The movie is so emotional, but it’s been a real joy making it."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
