Who Are Blue Beetle And Booster Gold?

Created by Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski, Blue Beetle first appeared in 1939's Mystery Men Comics #1. The character's powers initially came from a chemical called Vitamin 2-X; however, the origin story was later changed and saw a special, sacred scarab give Blue Beetle his powers. Three different people have taken on the mantle of Blue Beetle in the past, including Dan Garrett, Ted Kord and Jamie Reyes. DC is currently working on a Blue Beetle film, scheduled to release theatrically on Aug. 18, 2023, starring Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Jamie.

Booster Gold was created by Dan Jurgens and first appeared in 1986's Booster Gold #1. Booster Gold/Michael Carter was born in 2442 and then travels back into the past after he steals some advanced, high-powered technology. Known for being somewhat egotistical in nature, Booster Gold appeared in live-action format when Donald Faison played him during Legends of Tomorrow's seventh season. He was also played by Eric Martsolf in DC's Smallville series.

Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are longtime friends who have teamed up countless times in the past. Most recently, Blue & Gold launched in 2021 from DC and saw the two heroes try to confront their sudden uprise in popularity while also battling villains like Black Beetle. The synopsis for the first issue of the series reads, "Desperate to regain the spotlight, Booster Gold looks to attract the public’s (and Justice League’s) attention the same way any washed-up, second-rate hero would—social media. The not-so-tech-savvy hero from the 25th century enlists the help of his best friend, Blue Beetle, who possesses both the money and the brains to help his old pal navigate the scary world of internet influencers. Watch out, evildoers, our heroes are live and online! Don’t miss Dan Jurgens’s triumphant return to Booster Gold with the help of all-star artist Ryan Sook (Legion of Super-Heroes), telling a tale filled with heart and maybe even redemption for DC’s two favorite underdogs!"

McFarlane Toys has announced a number of other DC figures, toys and collectibles over the past weeks, including a Batrocitus figure, a Batman/Superman hybrid collectible from the 1993 Speeding Bullets one-shot, a new line of DC Super Powers toys and more.
