Shazam! director David F. Sandberg is set to helm the Netflix adaptation of The UnsoundPublished by BOOM! Studios, the series was created by Cullen Bunn and Jack T. Cole.

According to Deadline, Netflix won a high-stakes bidding war to land the film rights for the property. Sandberg, who cut his teeth in the horror genre on such films as Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation before venturing into the DC Extended Universe, has expressed interest in returning to his roots.

The film's script will be written by Skyler James and it will be produced by Sandberg and Lotta Losten through their production company Mångata, as well as BOOM! Studios’ Ross Richie and Stephen Christy.

Debuting in 2017, The Unsound follows the latest hire at St. Cascia Psychiatric Hospital, Ashli, whose first day on the job goes awry after a violent riot. To make matters worse, she soon discovers a hellish world full of monsters, black magic and sinister scientific experiments.
