BOOM! Studio's "Cow Boy," the Eisner award winning graphic novel by Nate Cosby and Chris Eliopoulos, is headed to television thanks to DreamWorks Animation, TheWrap reports.

The studio has optioned the graphic novel for the small screen as an animated series, with Brendan Hay -- the showrunner behind the DWA/Netflix series "The Croods" -- set to write and executive produce. BOOM! Studio's President of Development Stephen Christy and Chief Executive Officer Ross Richie will also be involved in as-of-yet unannounced roles.

Originally published in 2012, "Cow Boy" -- which won the 2013 Eisner Award as the "Best Publication for Kids" -- follows a 10-year-old bounty hunter out to stop his outlaw family.

DreamWorks Animation's past credits include "DreamWorks Dragons" animated series, based the on their popular "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise. Additionally, a live action film of BOOM! Studio's popular title "Lumberjanes" by Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis and Brooke Allen is in the works at 20th Century Fox.
