All seven episodes of its newest project, The Book of Boba Fett, are streaming now, and Season 1 certainly finished on a high note. Its main timeline picked up shortly after the famed bounty hunter killed Bib Fortuna in the surprise mid-credits scene from The Mandalorian. From there, Boba looked to  solidify his control of Jabba the Hutt’s former criminal empire but encountered a lot of resistance along the way. Meanwhile, dream sequences filled in some story gaps post Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett’s Crew and Cast

Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett acts as a sequel to The Mandalorian, and as such, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were at the helm as executive producers. Each of them also directed an episode. Additionally, Ludwig Göransson returned from The Mandalorian as the series’ composer and was joined by Joseph Shirley.

Other than getting more details about Boba Fett’s character, the best part about the series was that Temuera Morrison was back in a lead role. He played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones and did voice work as Boba in 2004’s DVD release of the Original Trilogy. Joining Morrison was Ming-Na Wen, who played Fennec Shand – a master assassin who owed her life to Boba. Additionally, Chapter 3 introduced the Mods -- a cybernetically-enhanced street gang hired as Boba's body guards -- with Sophie Thatcher as their leader. Then, to everyone's delight, Chapters 5 and 6 were rife with Star Wars cameos. Pedro Pascal returned to play Mando; Rosario Dawson played Ahsoka, and Mark Hamill returned as a de-aged Luke Skywalker. If that wasn't enough, Timothy Olyphant retuned as Cobb Vanth and Corey Burton made Cad Bane's live-action debut.

Other members of the cast included David Pasquesi as Mayor Mok Shaiz's Majordomo, Jennifer Beals as Garsa Fwip -- one of Jabba's former lackeys -- Matt Berry as the droid 8D8 and Carey Jones as the Wookiee bounty hunter Black Krrsantan. Additionally, Danny Trejo made his Star Wars debut as Boba's rancor trainer. To learn more information about these actors and their characters, take a look at these articles.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett’s Story

The first few episodes of The Book of Boba Fett were two-fold. Their main timeline showed Boba and Fennec Shand working together to take over what was once Jabba’s criminal empire. However, it had been a full five years since Jabba’s death, and having just killed Bib Fortuna, they had their work cut out for them. While consolidating power, more and more people opposed Boba's takeover, including: Mayor Mok Shaiz, some Hutt Twins and the Pyke Crime Syndicate and, most recently, the crime families of Tatooine.

In addition to that, flashbacks gave a look at what Boba was up to after Return of the JediIn a series of dream sequences, that Boba has while submerged in a bacta pod, fans saw how Boba escaped the Sarlacc Pit and assimilated with a peaceful tribe of Tusken Raiders. During that time, he commandeered some speeder bikes from Tosche Station in order to help the Tusken's defend themselves from the Pyke Syndicate. Unfortunately, though, the Pykes retaliated and killed all of Boba's Tusken friends, but they framed the Kiantan Striders.

Regardless of who killed the Tuskens, the massacre was where the two timelines started to meet in the middle. After finding his tribe dead, Boba wandered alone until finding Fennec Shand wounded. He saved her life, and they became quite the team. Reclaiming his Firespray Gunship from Jabba's Palace, they used it to exact revenge on the Sarlacc and the Striders, who Boba thought was responsible for killing his tribe. Then, the two of them started to look for Boba's missing armor, which he found in The Mandalorian's second season.

Chapters 5 and 6 were kind of a surprise in terms of storyline. Fennec Shand recruited Din Djarin to help in Boba's war with the Pykes, but the episodes primarily served to connect the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian to The Book of Boba Fett. Chapter 5 showed how Din Djarin returned to a life of bounty hunting with the Darksaber and acquired a cool new ship. Meanwhile Chapter 6 featured Luke training Grogu in the ways of the Force, and introduced Cad Bane, who nearly killed Cobb Vanth, to live-action.

The season finale returned to to wrap up Boba Fett's Pyke problem as he predictably consolidated control over Jabba's former territory. Almost everyone from the series returned to have their moment (including Grogu after Luke made him choose between a Mandalorian and Jedi life) as the Pykes pulled out all of the stops to take down Boba. However, none of it mattered -- not even giant Scorpion Droids or treacherous crime families -- because plot armor prevailed. In fact, none of the heroes died, except for the Gamorrean Guards. The best part of the finale came when Boba Fett and Cad Bane finally got to duke it out in a repurposed duel from The Clone Wars. Bane confirmed that he was faster on the draw, but Boba proved that he was the better bounty hunter. A short and dramatic fight ended with Boba's gaffi stick deep inside of Bane's chest, definitively ending their rivalry and the season's conflicts. There was of course there was a mid-credit's scene as Cobb Vanth was being rebuilt into some kind of a cyborg. Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett’s Easter Eggs and References

Mandalorian, Luke and Grogu Header

Like ever Star Wars project, The Book of Boba Fett has had countless Easter eggs and callbacks to other Star Wars material. For one, Fennec Shand's character was a huge connection to The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian. On top of that, there have been multiple Original Trilogy references. Boba killed a huge sand creature like Leia killed Jabba; there was a a nod to C-3PO, and Boba a return the the fabled Tosche Station. Additionally, there was also the return of a massive, Wookiee bounty hunter, the appearance of Jabba's Hutt kin and the emergence of Boba's new pet rancor. If all of that wasn't enough, Chapters 5 and 6 were one big The Mandalorian callback, as multiple characters cameoed. Din Djarin took center stage in Chapter 5, while Luke, Grogu and Ahsoka all appeared in Chapter 6. The Season 1 finale didn't have any new characters, but it did reference Palpatine's famous "Do it!" line from Revenge of the Sith and featured upgraded and enlarged versions of the prequels' droidekas. You can find an updated list of Easter eggs here.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett's Theories And Rumors

Is the Book of Boba Fett Even Necessary at This Point?

Given that The Book of Boba Fett was part of the Star Wars franchise, speculation was a must. The overall success of the series could be debated, but it certainly lived up to the rumor mill's hype. Mando, Luke, Grogu and Ahsoka all made appearances and successfully connected the series to the MandoVerse. More significantly, it opened the door for more live-action debuts in the future. Notably, Cad Bane and Black Krrsantan appeared for the first time. The only character that didn't appear that could/should have would be Han Solo, but maybe it was for the best because that would have taken the series in an entirely different direction.

The Book of Boba Fett has yet to be confirmed for a second season, and various Star Wars fans will undoubtedly argue for both its renewal and its cancellation. Regardless, The Book of Boba Fett definitely did a great job of bridging The Mandalorian Season 2 to its coming Season 3. After Grogu chose the beskar armor over Yoda's lightsaber, all kinds of Grogu theories have started to flood the internet about how he will fare sans Luke. To keep up with the latest information on Boba Fett and Grogu's rumor mill, check out these articles.
