The Book of Boba Fett won't premiere on Disney+ for another 11 months, giving Star Wars fans plenty of time to speculate wildly about plot details and potential casting. However, with Robert Rodriguez attached as an executive producer, there's one obvious figure to watch for: Wherever the filmmaker goes, Danny Trejo is seldom far behind -- the actor should join Rodriguez in the Star Wars universe.

Trejo is a cross-genre favorite, an actor who knows what he does best and plays up to it. He can be anything from a heartwarming family man to a superhero to a heavy; his most famous role, Machete, somehow manages to embody all of those. It's a character that works under the direction of the equally versatile Rodriguez, and Machete was always meant to be Trejo's vehicle.

Danny Trejo as Machete

Trejo's life was scarred early by run-ins with the law until he became a youth counselor to keep others from his fate. A request for help from a young actor put him on a film set and his life changed forever. His early film career is full of small but notable roles in cheap action films like Maniac Cop 2 and Death Wish 4. Rodriguez was a new face in the industry when casting 1995's Desperado, and Trejo was a perfect fit for the small but memorable role of Navajas, a knife-wielder slain early in the film when he's mistaken for the Mariachi (Antonio Banderas).

During the filming of Desperado, Trejo and Rodriguez discovered they were family, and from then on, they worked closely together. Trejo is the most frequent collaborator on Rodriguez's productions, with over ten films together and Trejo carrying a regular role in the second season of From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.

Trejo's presence in a movie enriches its experience, no matter how over the top or low-budget the movie is. With one of the most distinctive faces in the industry and a set of tattoos to match, Trejo is the perfect actor for rough and tumble roles, and would be ideal for a role in The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian has already shown fans that there's a lot of nuance to be found in the galactic underbelly, and Boba Fett's story is likely to show off the truly seedy parts of the post-Empire civilization — somewhere a Trejo character would fit nicely.

"The Tragedy" was a taste of how Rodriguez's gift for brutal action and surprisingly subtle character will translate to Boba's story. With a need to flesh out the world surrounding this classic Mandalorian, that volatile mix of danger and competence is something Danny Trejo's roles have long specialized in. Plus, it's not the first time his name has come up. Rogue One writer Gary Whitta suggested Trejo would be a great fit for The Mandalorian last year, and he's still not wrong.
