From the ever changing Burger of the Day to Bob talking to inanimate objects, Bob's Burgers has a slew of ongoing bits and jokes, and one of those is the rivalry between Bob and Jimmy Pesto, the owner of the Italian restaurant across the street. As soon as Jimmy was introduced, fans could tell that he and Bob hated each other; however, what started this feud is unclear. It can be assumed that Jimmy was the one who started this since Bob, as seen in Season 2, Episode 7, "Moody Foodie," has a friendly relationship with other restaurant owners and cooks in town, but it is still unclear why Jimmy hates Bob so much; however, Reddit user u/Sveenee may have figured out where all this animosity stems from, and it's jealousy.

Bob's Cooking Integrity

One of the many things Jimmy makes fun of Bob for is his food, rubbing in his face that his restaurant is more successful while also insulting Bob's cooking. While he isn't wrong that Jimmy Pesto's Pizzeria sees more business than Bob's Burgers, it is canon that Bob's food is great, with the Moody Foodie critic changing his mind about Bob's cooking despite being held hostage by him, and Bob received praises for his burger during the Best Burger competition of Season 5, Episode 5. Furthermore, while the Belchers are nearly always struggling with money, the restaurant still manages to stay open without Bob having to change his vision, standards or recipes.

On the other hand, Jimmy Pesto seems to have had to sacrifice his integrity as a chef. As the Reddit theory suggests, Jimmy has had to change several things to succeed, including changing his last name to sound more "Italian." Furthermore, his food, despite him having customers, is not good, especially compared to Bob's. Jimmy is probably aware of this, regardless of his over confident behavior, and it frustrates him to see that Bob's Burgers remains open despite Bob not having to sacrifice his own chef's integrity.

Bob's Relationship with Linda

Along with the two being business competitors, Jimmy's grudge against Bob is more personal. In Season 2, Episode 1, "The Belchies," viewers learn that Jimmy is divorced. While it is unclear why him and his wife separated, audiences get the notion that Jimmy is not a catch and that he is very lonely, best seen in Season 10, Episode 22, "Prank You For Being a Friend," where Bob is forced into delivering Jimmy his hernia medication because he has nobody else in his life outside of his bartender and kids.

Meanwhile Linda and Bob are ride or die for each other. They've been married for years, and while the two have their differences and struggles, they always work through it. While televised comedies have a history of depicting marriages as broken, agitated or unhealthy for laughs, Bob's Burgers is one of the shows breaking that trend with the comedy coming from the love between the two. Bob and Linda are completely honest and open with each other, so audiences, as well Jimmy, see how happy this makes the two of them. With Jimmy lacking a partner who supports and loves him, he could be jealous of Bob and Linda's relationship.

Bob's Relationship with His Kids

TV BOB'S BURGERS

Beside watching Bob and Linda's healthy, loving relationship from across the way, Jimmy is also well aware of how Bob's relationship with his kids is better than his own with Jimmy Jr., Andy and Ollie. The Belcher kids are not easy by any means; however, Bob and Linda do not try to make their kids something they are not. Throughout the 11 seasons, Bob has had endearing moments with his children, from him and Gene bonding over spaghetti westerns, to Bob fighting for Tina's Capoeira belt, to him being there for Louise while she overcomes her public bathroom phobia.

Jimmy also has three unique kids who can be difficult; however, unlike Bob, he struggles to relate to his children. For instance, in Season 1, Episode 6, "Sheesh! Cab, Bob?" Jimmy refuses to let Jimmy Jr. go to Tina's birthday party unless Bob shaves his mustache, despite Jimmy Jr. wanting to go. While Bob is willing to swallow his pride for his child's happiness, Jimmy rather win in this rivalry than let his kid have a nice night. With Bob having supportive relationships with his kids and wife, as well as running his business as he wants to, it isn't a surprise that Jimmy's hate for Bob stems from jealousy.

Created by Loren Bouchard, Bob's Burgers stars H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal. The series airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
