Louise Belcher from Bob's Burgers joins the ranks of many famous animated characters with head-based secrets. From Double D's hat in Ed, Edd and Eddy to Sara Bellum's face from The Powerpuff Girls, there are countless characters that seem to have something to hide, leaving fans itching for answers and sharing their own theories to explain the unexplainable. In Louise's case, she is deeply attached to her bunny ears, which were inspired by the manga Tekkonkinkreet, in which a child character is seen wearing bear ears as an accessory. Creator Loren Bouchard liked the concept of a kid with animal ears so much that he designed Louise with bunny ears; however, there isn't an overt reason why Louise loves these ears so much, but a Reddit fan theory might explain exactly why the bunny ears must stay on.

In the Season 3, Episode 1, "Ear-sy Rider," Louise gets her ears stolen by teenage bully Logan. As soon as they are taken, she is devastated. She has a clear attachment to her ears, which she has been wearing for so long that even her parents can't imagine her without them. This episode clearly establishes that Louise's ears are more than an accessory to her; they're a source of security, which is where the theory comes into play.

The fan theory states one major reason behind Louise wearing the hat is that she fears she looks too much like her mother, Linda. The likeness between the two in undeniable, with the two having similar hairstyles and facial features. Also, looking at the other children, it's clear Louise looks the most like Linda. While this may seem silly at first, there are many episodes that provide specific context to back this theory, focusing on how Louise connects more so with Bob than Linda on an emotional level.

Louise clearly likes Bob more than Linda. Bob and Louise have many hobbies in common, such as their obsession with the Hawk and Chick father/daughter samurai movies, as well as their annual CSI game during Thanksgiving. Louise has also stated that she wants to take over the restaurant when she is older, placing her much closer to her father and his dreams.

Meanwhile, Louise has been upfront about not connecting with Linda. In Season 1, Episode 9, "Spaghetti Western and Meatballs," Louise not only grows jealous of Gene and Bob growing closer, but she is also open about not wanting to spend time with Tina and Linda. Along with that, she is upset that her farts smell like Linda's instead of like Bob's or Gene's. Furthermore, Linda and Louise have needed to work through their differences, as seen in Season 3, Episode 10, "Mother Daughter Laser Razor," where Linda forces Louise to attend a mother-daughter seminar. While the two work through some problems, it is obvious that Louise does not want to be like her mother.

One common theory amongst the thread is that Louise's ears might hide her insecurities. Many children and some adults have something they wear in order to hide their insecurities, and her ears might be the way that she hides her physical similarities to Linda. Similarly, it could be a security blanket she clings to, afraid of growing older; although, the strongest factors aim towards her fear of becoming her mother. While this insecurity could be based in a love for her father or a fear of losing her childlike nature, Louise's ears are here to stay.

Created by Loren Bouchard, Bob's Burgers stars H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal. The series airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
