WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Bob's Burgers Season 11, Episode 4, "Heartbreak Hotel-ween," which aired Sunday on Fox.

Bob's Burgers aired its annual Halloween episode a day after the holiday, but that didn't make the episode any less entertaining or wholesome. "Heartbreak Hotel-ween," which focuses on vengeance and forgiveness, finds the Belcher kids, Tina, Gene and Louise, in a curious conundrum in which they had to solve a 50-year-old mystery to help a grieving woman.

The episode opens with Louise sharing a vendetta she's held onto for the better part of two years. While trick or treating one Halloween, the kids went to a house that ran out of candy right before Louise got a piece, which led the homeowners to promise her double the candy, not thinking too much of it. The following year, Louise went to the house, hoping the owners would keep their promise. After they fail to remember, however, Louise is out for revenge. Missing out on all that candy causes her to form a plan with her siblings that would have them do a group costume in order to steal the house's entire bowl of candy.

Before leaving the restaurant, Bob gets a call for a delivery order at a hotel, which the kids decide to drop off out of the kindness of their hearts (and the promise of a tip). While this sidetracked Louise's timeline, she agreed to go and deliver the burger, hoping it would be a quick job. Upon arriving at the hotel room, the kids find a woman sitting on the floor with candles and papers spread out, which causes them to run out of the room in fear, leaving a piece of their costume behind.

When they return to retrieve it, they find out the woman, Delores, is actually trying to summon her late lover to banish his soul to Hell because he cheated on her. Tina, the hopeless romantic, notices hints that Delores' lover could not be a cheater as he wrote her love letters straight from the heart. Afraid to implement Louise's plan, Tina makes a bet with her: if Tina could prove the man was not cheating, the kids would trick or treat as normal, without having to steal a whole bowl of candy.

After sifting through the clues and understanding the timeline of the fateful day, Tina discovers that the lover was not a cheater at all. As it turns out, it was a moment of mistaken identity and a peanut allergy that caused the lover to die. While this mystery turned into a whodunit when the files disappeared, it became clear that Delores hid them because she is scared to find out the truth about the man she loved. It was a way to keep him alive in her heart, but finding out he didn't cheat before his untimely death gives some comfort to the old woman. After Delores is able to come to terms with her situation, Louise learns an important lesson about holding grudges as she saw what hate and grief did to the old woman.

Created by Loren Bouchard, Bob's Burgers stars H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal. The series airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
