Nobody producer Kelly McCormick has confirmed when the upcoming sequel to the 2021 action movie will begin filming.

In an interview with Collider, McCormick stated that the current goal is for production to commence on Nobody 2 in 2023. "We hope to make it next year, so fingers crossed," she said. "So our theory is you don't need to make a good sequel just to make a sequel. We need to make a great sequel. And so it's about making sure that we get it right. And if we do, I think there's a lot of hope that we can go next year."

Directed by Russian filmmaker Ilya Naishuller, Nobody starred Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) as Hutch Mansell, a seemingly ordinary family man with a huge secret. After his home gets invaded by burglars who steal his daughter's kitty cat bracelet, Hutch reveals that he was formerly a government-trained assassin. In pursuit of the thieves, he crosses paths with Russian drug lord Yulian Kuznetsov (Aleksei Serebryakov) leading him to join forces with his retired FBI agent father, David (Christopher Lloyd), and his brother Eddie (RZA) to defeat the Russian gang. Nobody received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $57 million at the worldwide box office from a $16 million budget.

John Wick Creator Back for Nobody 2

Derek Kolstad, who wrote the screenplays for John Wick and Nobody, is back as the screenwriter for Nobody 2. David Leitch, who collaborated with Kolstad on those films, is also returning as a producer on the upcoming sequel. Leitch previously mentioned that Kolstad was hard at work on the sequel's script back in August 2022, revealing that "everyone's really excited about it." He continued, "Everyone involved is like, 'Full steam ahead.' We are in the script process, and I think we had so much fun making that. Kelly [McCormick] and I had a blast, the actors had a blast, the studio loved the results, and it's happening. I mean, I think it's happening as fast as we can make it happen."

Leitch and McCormack -- who are married in real life -- are currently promoting their latest film, Violent Night, which is now playing in theaters. Starring Stranger Things' David Harbour as Santa Claus, Violent Night takes place at a wealthy family's mansion on Christmas Eve. When mercenaries take the wealthy family hostage in their home, it's up to a disillusioned Santa to dispense lumps of coal in a bone-crunching way and save both the family and Christmas. The film also stars John Leguizamo and Beverly D'Angelo.

Nobody 2 does not have a release date at this time.
