Blumhouse tapped John Ridley to write and direct an untitled feature based on the "Project Poltergeist" article from Truly*Adventurous.

The article by Saleah Blancaflor covers a series of events in the 1960s, when a young boy was terrorized by unseen forces. Jason Blum will produce the film, alongside Truly*Adventurous' Matthew Pearl and Greg Nicholas.

"This is an incredible true-life narrative of a young man dealing with horrors — both paranormal and racially systemic — in a community that is scarred by hate, yet ultimately brought together by hope. I really appreciate Blumhouse’s commitment to telling stories that seek to entertain audiences even as it challenges them," Ridley said in a statement.

"The best scary movies are always based on a real event, and we were very compelled by the material this story is based on. I also know that John Ridley is as good as you get as a dramatic storyteller, among contemporary artists, so we’re confident that infusing this story with John’s brand of drama is a great bet," Blum added.

Ridley is a prolific screenwriter, having written several films, including the Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave. He also has written several comics, including the upcoming titles The Other History of the DC Universe and The Next Batman for DC, and a story for Marvel's upcoming Wolverine: Black White & Blood miniseries.
