Jason Blum, the producer behind the studio that created Get Out, Whiplash, and Happy Death Day, celebrated the upcoming release of Blumhouse's latest horror project M3GAN with an entertaining but strikingly sinister cosplay.Blum posted a photo of himself dressed as the movie's robotic murder-doll at the movie's premiere. Joined by the film's star Allison Williams and four other unnerving "M3GANs," Blum expressed his enthusiasm for the event. "It was too fun," Blum wrote, tweeting the image for a second time, "I have to tweet it again. I’m going to wear this for the rest of my life."RELATED: The Menu Fans May Enjoy Blumhouse's Horror Satire The Hunt

M3GAN sees Williams -- who memorably played Rose Armitage in Jordan Peele's modern horror classic Get Out -- step into the role of Gemma. Her character is a roboticist who designs a doll-like android ("M3GAN") to offer her recently orphaned niece protection and companionship. As per science-fiction tradition, things take a turn for the worse when M3GAN becomes a little too independent to be a harmless household robot -- and horror ensues.

M3GAN Is a Horror Blend

The movie is directed by Gerard Johnstone, who made his feature directorial debut with Housebound, a New Zealand horror comedy that he also wrote, in 2014. The director's humorous intentions come across in the latest trailer for M3GAN, which sees the killer doll throw out a few quips before it makes its murderous intentions clear.

M3GAN is a collaboration between Blum's Blumhouse Productions and James Wan's company Atomic Monster Productions. Wan, who is known as one of the key creative minds behind the Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring franchises, is reportedly in talks with Blum to merge the two iconic horror studios. At the time of writing, the details of the deal of currently unknown and a final agreement still needs to be ironed out.

Wan's previous project Malignant was a hit with horror fans, with some hoping to see M3GAN channel its terrifying, over-the-top energy. Another influence on the movie is that of Annabelle, the real-life, allegedly haunted doll that inspired Wan's Conjuring movies and subsequent Annabelle spin-offs.

M3GAN hits theaters Jan. 13, 2023.
