Blumhouse's previously untitled horror project has been revealed to be a remake of Black Christmas, and it comes with an appropriate release date: Friday, December 13, 2019.

The film is an updated version of the 1974 cult classic, widely considered to be the godfather of the slasher film genre. It follows a premise similar to the original, but with a twist. The synopsis is as follows:

Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. One by one, sorority girls on campus are being killed by an unknown stalker. But the killer is about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t willing to become hapless victims as they mount a fight to the finish.

The film is directed by Sophia Takal (Always Shine) from a script she co-wrote with April Wolfe (Widower). It stars Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue and Caleb Eberhardt.

Bob Clark (A Christmas Story) directed the first Black Christmas starring Olivia Hussey , Keir Dullea and John Saxon. The film didn't perform in American theaters, but developed a loyal fan following. The first attempt at a remake, Black Xmas, arrived in 2006 starring Katie Cassidy and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but was not received well by critics or audiences
