Blue Exorcist may have been overshadowed by much newer shounen series such as My Hero Academia and Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer, but fans are still loyal. The series has a dedicated fanbase that has a love-and-hate relationship with most of the characters. Here are the ten most hated ones, according to the fans and ranked.

10 Izumo Kamiki

Izumo was rude, blunt, and mean to everyone around her, including those who bothered being nice to her. She never smiled and she enjoyed making fun of others. Even though her attitude underwent heavy changes later on in Blue Exorcist, fans couldn’t help but dislike her for how she treated the main cast of the series. This is one of the many reasons she was so hated.

9 Rin Okumura

The protagonist of Blue Exorcist has many haters. It is not because Rin is a bad person, but because his impulsive nature has heavy consequences. He often rushes into difficult and life-threatening situations without thinking about his own well being, forcing his friends to go in after him and thus making them risk their lives for him.

8 Igor Neuhaus

Igor was possessed by Satan, and when he was engulfed with his blue flames, he lost his left eye along with his family. Understandably, he hates Satan a lot. but his hatred turns into bigotry when he finds out Rin is Satan’s spawn.

He goes out of his way to kill Rin because according to him, Satan’s spawn can only be evil. This is very ironic considering how loyal he is to Satan’s other son Mephisto, which is why fans hate him a lot.

7 Arthur Augustus Angel

The True Cross Order is shown to have a new Paladin – Arthur Angel. There is a remarkable difference between his appearance and his nature.

He might appear to be a bit sow but on the inside, he’s a terribly sadistic man who cut off Rin’s leg during Mephisto's trial just because he could. Much like Igor, his blind hatred for demons made him blind to Rin’s affable nature.

6 Amaimon

Despite having a calm exterior, Amaimon has the personality of a child. He’s extremely powerful but he doesn’t think twice before using his powers. He gets irritated easily and he’s a sore loser.

The worst part, however, is how he possesses the body of a teenage boy that he took over without his consent, of course, forcing his family to believe their child will be lost to them, forever.

5 Mephistopheles

Mephisto is shown to be an extremely shrewd and calculating demon. He always knows more than he lets on because of which he is always ten steps ahead of everyone else in the room.

He called himself a “hell-raiser” and true to his word, the demon creates chaos wherever he goes.

4 Reiji Shiratori

Reiji is a typical bully – cruel and dumb. He feels powerful when he’s bullying those weaker than him and this is shown when he and his gang bullies Rin for no apparent reason. When Rin beats him down, instead of backing off and admitting defeat, it only encourages him to take “revenge” on Rin.

In fact, such is the nature of the evil inside him that the King of Rot (Astaroth) sensed it and decided that Reiji was an appropriate vessel to possess.

3 Satan

Satan is one of the most hated characters in Blue Exorcist, and with good reason. Satan is cruel, reckless, and sadistic, so much so that even his own son is not free from the unnecessary torture he metes out on him.

He disgraces his love Yuri’s memory by possessing Yukio and then trying to kill his other son in a duel, despite knowing how much Yuri loved both her children.

2 Shura Kirigakure

Shura And Rin In Blue Exorcist

The problem with Shura is not that she’s a bad character – the problem lies in the way she’s presented. She’s a confident and laid-back young woman who possesses immense demon fighting skills, and yet she’s presented as a piece of meat for viewers to enjoy.

She wears a barely-there bra and her physical assets are one of the most defining features of her personality. This would be fine if the male characters were treated in the same way, but sadly they weren’t. Although Shura is a powerful character and a strong woman, the fact she is treated as a fanservice character does not change.

1 Shiemi Moriyama

Shiemi is naive to the point of being dumb, kind to the point of being dumb, and shy to the point of being dumb. She’s clumsy, lacks a spine, and barely makes the effort to break out of her shell. Whatever character development she received in the first season is erased and in season two, she’s back to where she started. This is because the first season of Blue Exorcist diverted from the canon at episode thirteen, and Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga peels back everything and returns to the canon of the manga.
