The Blue Beetle legacy began in the Golden Age, but the most successful hero to bear the title is easily Jaime Reyes. The third incarnation of the character, Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle is a lot more powerful and cosmic than his two predecessors. Not only has he had a lot of pushes in the world of comics, but he's also set to receive a live-action movie. This makes it the perfect time for him to spread his wings in another medium.

Webtoons have become increasingly ubiquitous in the West, with several DC Comics Webtoons being produced in the last year. The format would work well with Blue Beetle's tone and scope, giving younger readers more ways to get into the character. It would also be a great way to cement him as one of DC's main heroes while tapping into a big inspiration for the upcoming movie.

Now is the Perfect Time for DC to Push Blue Beetle

Blue Beetle confronts the Horizon with Superman and Batman.

The Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle was introduced during DC's crossover event Infinite Crisis, and his ongoing series was published afterward. This was definitely the hero's heyday, with many fans lauding the comic as one of DC's best at the time. It was the popularity of the book that saw Jaime added to numerous comic book adaptations in the following years such as Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the tv show Smallville. He was even primed to at one point get his own live-action series, though this never panned out. Sadly, his other comic book runs weren't quite as well-received, and it stifled his mainstream potential.

The recent Blue Beetle: Graduation Day very much resembles the status quo established in the live-action movie. Likewise, there's another comic book series on the way that will release closer to the film's debut, but given how much Blue Beetle may pop off and become popular with mainstream audiences, it'd be wise to give them as much material to read as possible. And, Webtoon would be the perfect place for his adventures to continue.

Webtoons is the Perfect Place For Blue Beetle

DC already has Webtoons for various heroes and properties, such as the more light-hearted Wayne Family Adventures. Other series' similarly focus on more slice of life takes on familiar characters, and while this works for established brands such as Batman, something different might be needed for lesser-known DC properties such as Blue Beetle. After all, he's only truly breaking into the mainstream with non-comic book fans, and he needs his supporting cast to be fully established before more subversive takes on the hero can be created.

Webtoon doesn't just have comedies or slice of life series, however, action-based titles are just as common. The cool veneer of that genre fits Blue Beetle perfectly. These Webtoons wouldn't just be low-stakes versions of the comics either. They could offer the same types of stories that fans expect from certain heroes. Stories of Jaime Reyes fighting The Reach in space or other, more earthbound supervillains would look great in its art style. Most importantly, it'd be a sign that DC Comics is focusing on all of its properties. With Blue Beetle set to make more appearances on the big screen, it wouldn't hurt to give him as many stories as possible, and Webtoon is the best place to do it.
