A new video from the set of Blue Beetle shows viewers just how flexible the recently revealed costume of protagonist Jamie Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) will be in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film. The video, which originated from The Daily Mail and was shared on Twitter by a Brazilian Blue Beetle fan account, begins with Maridueña in full costume getting off the roof of a wrecked car with incredible ease, then backing away and smacking his forehead while letting out an annoyed groan. The footage then repeats itself before the video comes to an end.RELATED: Blue Beetle Taps Susan Sarandon to Play DC Villain

Prior to both the reveal of the costume and the release of the footage, fans were given a glimpse of what the Azure Avenger would look like in the movie thanks to concept art from last year's DC FanDome virtual convention. It was at that panel, where the art was revealed, that Maridueña jokingly called out "any of the other superheroes out there would think they have the best superhero suit" for a rap battle, stating, "We got the best suit over here at Blue Beetle. And I haven't even seen it, that's how confident I am."

Maridueña also talked about the costume earlier this year after trying it on, albeit without giving away too much about it. "We've done two suit fittings," he noted. "They're hoping that I get more buff by the time we actually start filming. But I've seen the suit, and it looks awesome." And while plot details about the film are being kept under wraps, Maridueña commented that it is "gonna be important, not only for Latinos and to see people of color, brown people, represented onscreen, but also show a story that we haven't really seen before."

Blue Beetle's logo was recently shared by artist Elpidia Carrillo, showing off its 1990s graffiti style. Director Angel Manuel Soto also delved into working on the film, calling it an honor to "direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC." Soto added, "I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can't wait to make history together."

Blue Beetle will see Maridueña joined by actors Susan Sarandon and Raoul Max Trujillo as villains Victoria Kord and Conrad Carapax/Carapax the Indestructible Man, respectively.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle arrives in theaters in Aug. 18, 2023.
