The following article contains spoilers from Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3, on sale now from DC Comics.

Blue Beetle may be doubting his own worth, but one major hero is not. In Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3 (by Josh Trujillo, Adrian Gutierrez, Wil Quintana, and Lucas Gattoni) Starfire began her mentorship of Blue Beetle. As it turns out, she is the perfect person to instruct him on how to be a hero as the two of them have a number of similar experiences that make her uniquely qualified to coach him through his doubts and anxieties.

The issue further served to demonstrate why the two are optimally paired, both in their personal and professional lives. Their respective personalities complement one another and lead to a partnership founded upon mutual respect. Coupling this with Starfire's recent experiences as a teacher, Blue Beetle has found a world-class instructor for his needs.

Starfire Mentors Blue Beetle

During the issue, Starfire and Blue Beetle went on a tour of Palmera City, helping Starfire get accustomed to the city's culture. During their outing, Starfire encouraged Blue Beetle, citing how he had more value than he realized, as well as revealing that she believed Batman and Superman were wrong to bench him due to the upcoming trouble with the Reach. This automatically established that she was in his corner, but it was what she said next that truly cemented how she is the ideal teacher for him.

In Starfire's eyes, though they come from different worlds, she and Blue Beetle have much in common. Both of them were the byproducts of cruel experimentation that gave them greater power. That in turn resulted in a long journey to accept who they are now. Starfire wants to ensure that Blue Beetle's life is easier than hers was, and she can see the potential for greatness within him. She desperately wants to give him the help she wished she had.

Starfire Is the Perfect Mentor for Blue Beetle

Starfire and Blue Beetle Have a Lot in Common

Aside from shared experiences though, Starfire is actually ideal as a teacher. She is incredibly compassionate and doesn't need to worry about fitting into Blue Beetle's personal life. For example, she used the issue to learn to speak Spanish, so she wouldn't need to rely on him as a translator in Palmera City. This shows a willingness to adapt to what her student needs, and she's already given a lot of emotional support to build up his confidence.

Her greatest qualification though is the fact that she actually has teaching experience. Starfire's time in Titan's Academy might not have been the most stable, but it did give her valuable lessons in how to instruct young heroes. Blue Beetle is already more established in the heroic community and is older than the kids she was teaching, so that should make it easier on her. In addition, this is a one-on-one mentorship. She won't have to worry about wrangling multiple super-powered teenagers. Especially since Blue Beetle is eager to learn from her.
