The footage garnered widespread kudos from DCU devotees on social media, who praised the Blue Beetle costume's fidelity to its comic book counterpart, as well as the range of motion it affords Maridueña. Whether fans will react as positively to the film itself remains to be seen, especially as it is apparently one of several upcoming DC Studios projects intended to lay the groundwork for the revamped DCU. DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO James Gunn said as much during a recent presentation, emphasizing that Blue Beetle will be the first DCU installment to premiere after the June 2023 release of franchise-wide soft reboot The Flash. Gunn also talked up Blue Beetle's merits aside from helping reset the DCU, describing it as "a fantastic film about a kid who is a marvelous part of the DCU."

Blue Beetle arrives in theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.
