Created by Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski, Blue Beetle first appeared in Mystery Men Comics #1 in 1939. The character was originally a rookie cop who used vitamin supplements to give himself super strength. At the time of his debut, the character was owned by Fox Comics. The rights to Blue Beetle weren’t picked up by DC Comics until 1983. Once the character was purchased by DC Comics, his backstory was retconned so that he was a teenager who found the Blue Beetle suit, which allowed him fight crime across the Earth and outer space.

Booster Gold’s origin isn’t quite as distant. Created by Dan Jurgens, Booster Gold first appeared in Booster Gold #1 back in 1986. The character hails from 25th century Gotham, where he was disgraced for match fixing at Gotham University. He eventually gets his hands on a time travel device that allows him to visit the 20th century. Booster Gold’s name is a jumbling of his football nickname, Booster, and his chosen superhero title, Goldstar.

The Blue Beetle and Booster Gold two-pack announcement comes just a day after Funko announced it would release Pop! versions of Stan Lee's many Marvel cameos.
