Sony's Bloodshot could not hit the target, opening in the U.S. to just $9.3 million over the weekend.

According to Deadline, this places the Valiant Comics movie in third place behind Pixar's Onward, which grossed $10.5 million, and I Still Believe, which took in $9.5 million. While Onward took home the top spot, it was the biggest second weekend drop in the studio's history, down 73% from its $39 million opening.

Bloodshot is not the only film suffering at the domestic box office. All the movies playing this weekend took in a combined total of just $54.4 million, a 21-year low for the domestic box office. The low numbers are due to growing concern over the coronavirus, which has led to the closing of dozens of theaters and AMC's Theatres reducing their capacity cap by 50%.

Many studios are hoping to avoid dismal numbers like these by moving major releases back until the coronavirus crisis subsides. Films like Mulan, New Mutants, No time to Die and F9 have been pushed back to as late as next year.

Directed by Dave Wilson (VFX Supervisor for Avengers: Age of Ultron) with a script by Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare), Bloodshot stars Vin Diesel, Guy Pearce and Toby Kebbell. The film is in theaters now.
