After some minor delays, Sony's upcoming adaptation of Valiant Comics' Bloodshot is scheduled to begin filming next month.
The production was initially expected to begin production this past May before being pushed back to July. Now with filming locations for the Vin Diesel vehicle all but officially secured, principal photography has received a reported start date for August 6.
Shooting is expected to take place at Cape Town Film Studios, the same South African sound stages where 2012's Dredd and 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road were filmed. Additional photography will take place in Eastern Europe with both Prague and Budapest scouted as possible filming locations.
First announced in 2015, Sony announced a partnership with Valiant Comics to create a cinematic universe based on their superhero titles. Leading the wave of planned Valiant films is an R-rated adaptation of Bloodshot, Valiant's lethal super-soldier with incredible healing abilities and the power to hack into tech using the nanites in his bloodstream.
Originally planned for release in 2017, Bloodshot will tentatively be released next year. It is marks the feature directorial debut of Dave Wilson after a prolific animation career from a script by Eric Heisserer (Arrival). The Valiant Comics adaptation stars Vin Diesel, Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), and Sam Heughan (Outlander).
