The FromSoftware games have been regarded as some of the most challenging and frustrating games to date. They can be beaten with enough patience but there are many moments in the games that seem unfair to players. It's different from the average game, but people are beginning to learn that it isn't as unforgiving as people make it out to be.

There any many creatures within the game that have garnered a lot of hate among fans. The frustrating bosses and enemies found in the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne have people split on which set of games is truly harder overall.

10 Dark Souls: Basilisks Can Pile On & Cause Curse

Dark Souls 3 Basilisk Ambush

Often regarded as the worst mechanic in the series, Curse causes instant death when built up. The game's introduction to this is from Basilisks in the first Dark Souls, found in The Depths. These creatures can swarm quickly and trap players on one end of an area with a large gas cloud.

The reason this enemy is so difficult is that Curse will halve the player's HP, making it that much harder to get past them the second time around. They are relatively easy to kill, but fans of the game will know that a swarm of enemies is often more dangerous than one big one.

9 Bloodborne: Keeper Of The Old Lords Keeps Their Dogs Close

Bloodborne Keeper Of The Old Lords Boss Fight

This enemy isn't too tough as a boss as the arena is much larger to navigate around. However, in higher-level chalice dungeons, this boss becomes a normal enemy that can be found nearly anywhere.

The dogs they keep around them make it especially difficult to go in quickly as the Keeper has many close-ranged fire attacks. It's best to take out the dogs first, but any amount of enemies nearby can create trouble while dealing with the group. If the Keeper is aggroed this can mean a quick death as they are fairly fast and can do a running attack that, while slow, does a lot of damage.

8 Dark Souls: Bonewheel Skeletons Are Torture To Fight Against

Dark Souls 3 Bonewheel Skeleton

Bonewheel Skeletons have a kill count higher than some of the toughest bosses in the Dark Souls series. The stamina damage they deal alone makes it difficult to just use a shield and hope for the best. Instead, these enemies need to be dodged to efficiently kill them, and any late dodge will still get lots of chip damage in.

When first encountered, these enemies can be found in narrow corridors, making it that much harder to get away from them. They are nerfed in future games, dealing very little stamina damage in Dark Souls 3, but in the original Dark Souls, they are capable of killing players in one forward charge.

7 Bloodborne: Bloodlickers Are Fast & Can't Be Visceral Attacked

Bloodborne Bloodlicker

The two types of Bloodlickers have minor differences, but the ones in the DLC have higher HP and can spit blood to inflict poison. Even when fighting the ones in Cainhurst Castle or the ones in Chalice Dungeons these creatures are dangerous to encounter. Using a sidearm isn't effective against these creatures, not that it's possible to really get a shot in any way if they spam their jump attacks.

The safest strategy is to strafe and dodge between jumps and swipes. If players try to use the Dark Souls strategy of getting behind it, it'll respond by kicking them with its hindlegs. In chalice dungeons, these creatures can spawn over time and even be caught licking up the blood of corpses left behind, especially if killed by a visceral attack from the player.

6 Dark Souls: Mimics Are Dark Souls-Exclusive

Dark Souls 3 Mimic

In Bloodborne, there is no worry about being tricked into opening up a chest and being chewed on by a Mimic. Most chests found in the game are in Chalice Dungeons and are usually met with other forms of traps. It is only Dark Souls that the chain has to really be looked at before opening a chest.

The different types of Mimics in Dark Souls 3 are certainly not to trifled with, as one with crab walk at the player and the other will practically dance at the player. There are few things as frustrating as being eaten alive after interacting with a chest as it's one of the few times there is no excuse for not giving a quick hit before chancing it.

5 Bloodborne: Slime Scholars Are Powerful At A Distance

Bloodborne Slime Scholar

The Lecture Building in Bloodborne is crawling with these Scholars, and while they don't have too much HP, they can easily gang up on the player. With outstretched limbs and slime they toss towards the player, it's best to fight these things at close range. They have decent resistance to some physical attacks, but their ability to sneak up on the player in numbers makes them painful to deal with.

They attach themselves to the ceiling and will grab the player as they drop down on them. They are a good farm in the room where dozens of them spawn but can overwhelm players that aren't used to their attacks.

4 Dark Souls: Jailers Leave Players With Little To No HP

Dark Souls 3 Jailers

In Dark Souls 3, Jailers are found on the way to Yhorm through the Irithyll Dungeon. They are easy to kill on their own but it's their residual effect that makes them hard to deal with. Their surrounding mist will drain HP, and lower the maximum HP for an amount of time. If caught by their grab attacks, this can instantly kill a player if their bar has been lowered enough.

This also means that any creature can kill the player easily as recovering from the mist will use up Estus, and once out, there's no way of recovering HP apart from restarting or using a consumable. Jailers are what most players will remember about the Dungeon, and for all the wrong reasons.

3 Bloodborne: Winter Lanterns Build Up Frenzy Quickly

Bloodborne Winter Lantern

Frenzy, like Curse, builds up over time by does gradual damage over time as well as a burst of damage when it's full. Whenever a Winter Lantern is close, it can usually be avoided as fighting requires Sedatives to avoid being killed by Frenzy. They have one attack, grabbing the player while dealing physical damage in combination with Frenzy.

It is almost impossible to survive the grab attack without some resistance and only the ones found in the Nightmare of Mensis are able to be poisoned from afar. Fighting Winter Lanterns is rarely a choice any player wants to take and warrants the use of Blue Elixirs to safely navigate around them.

2 Dark Souls: Silver Knight Archers Are Infuriating

Dark Souls Silver Knight Archers

The archers of Anor Londo are the cherry on top of what is already a frustrating area. The Painting Guardians on the path to the elevator cause grief as just one wrong step can mean certain death. Getting through them can be made easy with enough arrows or just avoiding their attacks entirely to jump off early.

The Archers, however, are relentless in their arrow spam. Gravity will claim players time and time again after being propelled downward from a single hit of a great arrow. With Ornstein and Smough waiting soon after this section of the game, it's no wonder so many people stop at this point in the game.

1 Bloodborne: The Bloody Crow Of Cainhurst Will Test Even The Best Player's Skill

Bloodborne Bloody Crow of Cainhurst

Whether it's through fighting a friendly NPC or finding some of the Hunters spread throughout the game, an equal fight with another Trick Weapon user is deadly. They can be equipped with many different weapons, and the one in Old Yharnam even has a machine gun. There is no R1 spam for them as every hit has to be calculated because they can stagger the player with their sidearm.

Being visceral attacked is something that most people playing PvP are used to, but when it first happens through an encounter like this one, the fight is usually already lost. The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is one of the hardest fights in the entire game and will test player's reactions and skill with their speed and power.
