Fans shouldn't be surprised when a series named Chainsaw Man is full of blood, gore, and other forms of gruesome imagery. Chainsaw Man has been known to blur the lines between shonen and seinen, and that's never more apparent than in the series' more brutally violent scenes.

As Denji turns into the Chainsaw Devil, he makes sure to cut his enemies into pieces in some of the most gruesome ways possible, and fans get a front-row seat to the action. While Chainsaw Man is full of tragic and emotional deaths for some of its more likable characters, those aren't always as impactful as the sheer brutality of deaths inherent in Chainsaw Man's formula.

This article contains spoilers for the Chainsaw Man manga.

10 Denji Was Left Out In The Gutter

Chainsaw Man set the stage for its brutal form of gore and violence right from the start of the series. After the Yakuza made a contract with the Zombie Devil, Denji was taken to be disposed of for being more trouble than he was worth.

Denji was attacked, mutilated, and left in the trash by the Zombie Devil's legions as if displaying in the most graphic way possible how thoroughly he was tossed aside by society. However, his caring relationship with Pochita is what gave him a new chance at life, and resurrected him from the gutter to become Chainsaw Man.

9 Denji Won't Stand For Animal Abuse

Denji, in his Chainsaw Man form, kills the Bat Devil

The Bat Devil was one of the first really terrifying devils Denji had to face. Its sheer size reflected humanity's fixation on bats as something that fed into their deepest fears. What's worse, the Bat Devil swallowed Power and Meowy whole without a second thought, which really got on Denji's bad side.

Though it was a pretty gruesome moment, Denji standing in front of the Bat Devil while it rained the latter’s blood was one of the cooler scenes in the anime. There was even something chillingly wholesome about Denji cutting the Bat Devil open and pulling Power, still undigested, out of its remains.

8 Power Smashes The Sea Cucumber Devil

As the Blood Fiend, Power's lust for blood is just too strong to keep contained. When she smells a devil nearby, Power can’t help herself; she has to strike. In one of Power's most diabolic shows of strength, Power smashes the Sea Cucumber Devil in one hit, using a giant hammer that she made from her own blood.

As to be expected, this causes a bloody mess all over the street which Power seems to revel in. As Power stood among its remains, shouting something about the "glory of the kill," Denji was given a sneak peek into the madness he was in for as her partner.

7 Makima's Death Was A Whole Snack

Makima rips Pochita out of Denji in the Chainsaw Man manga

Denji's final battle against Makima was gruesome in and of itself, and the image of her ripping out Pochita from Denji's chest was one of the most powerful images in the manga. However, things became arguably even uglier in the aftermath of their fight.

Not only did Denji have to cut her to pieces, but — given her immortality — the only way he could truly get rid of Makima once and for all was to eat her. As Denji proceeds to cook some relatively appetizing meals, fans can't help but look on in disgust due to the true nature of the meat.

6 Chainsaw Man Could Fight For Eternity

Denji as Chainsaw Man fights the Eternity Devil

After being stuck on the eighth floor of an infinite hotel controlled by the Eternity Devil, Denji is left with little choice but to fight. With nothing to lose, Denji dives straight into the Eternity Devil's mouth in order to find its heart. Once inside, Denji endeavors to give the eternity devil an eternity of pain if necessary, proclaiming that he'll make it wish it were dead.

What ensues is a terrifying scene consisting of Chainsaw Man mercilessly cutting away at the eternity devil while drinking its blood at the same time to maintain his own power. He inevitably succeeds at his goal: the Eternity Devil voluntarily hands over his heart after enduring Denji's onslaught for three days straight.

5 Makima Proves The Validity Of Spontaneous Combustion

Makima Shows off her powers in the Chainsaw Man anime

After defeating and capturing Denji in the name of the Gun Devil, the Katana Devil and Akane attempt to escape with Denji in their custody. However, nothing escapes the control of Makima, and she decides to take matters into her own hands.

Using a bus of convicts as collateral, Makima completely crushes the Katana Devil's companions instantly, leaving only a gory scene where their bodies once were. This is the first real show of Makima's power in the series, and it's really only a small hint at what's to come.

4 The Katana Devil Vs Chainsaw Man Came To A Split Decision

The Katana Devil's final battle with Denji was one of the most epic in the anime. After losing badly in their first altercation, Denji seeks to put the new skills he learned from Kashibe to the test in their second meeting. It turns out, learning from the world's top Devil Hunter pays off.

While Denji gets both his arms cut off by the Katana Devil's signature move, Denji used this to his advantage. Growing a chainsaw from his leg, he cut the Katana Devil cleanly in half. While still not enough to kill a devil, it was certainly enough to incapacitate him until Aki arrives.

3 The Gun Devil Fulfills Its Contract

The Gun Devil's appearance when called upon by Makima was the most cataclysmic event in the series up to that point. Within twelve seconds of its appearance, the Gun Devil killed thousands of people by hitting them with a bullet from as far as 1,500 meters away.

The Gun Devil's carnage included it’s firing a bullet through the head of every adult male and child within a set distance and hitting every person born in specific months of the year through the heart. This was all brought about as a result of the U.S. President's contract with the Gun Devil. He attempted to use the Gun Devil to kill Makima, but it severely backfired.

2 Denji Weathers The Storm

In terms of blood and guts, The Typhoon Devil is Chainsaw Man's epitome. The Typhoon Devil's appearance consists solely of a swirling whirlwind of intestines and entrails underneath the head of a child with its brain showing.

With an appearance like that, it wouldn't take much for the Hurricane Devil's death to be a gruesome one. Denji even acknowledges the absurdity of the situation when he proclaims, "All I hafta do is swing my chainsaws around like an idiot!" And he isn't wrong.

1 Reze Blows Division 2 Away

Reze the bomb devil in the Chainsaw Man manga.

When they first encounter Reze as the Bomb Devil, Nomo puts up a good fight. However, it's just not enough. After she literally obliterates the rest of Division 2, Nomo is the last one left barely standing.

Nomo survives a direct blast from the Bomb Devil after she latches onto her, somehow emerging with only a missing arm. While she acknowledges that Nomo was hard to kill, when all's said and done, Reze appears in front of Aki's vehicle, holding the heads of both Nomo and the Vice Captain.
