The Quincy King Yhwach is the primary antagonist of Bleach's Thousand-Year Blood War arc. He is the biggest threat to the sustained existence of Soul Society, and in the past was able to go toe-to-toe with a prime Captain Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto at full power and live to tell the tale. Let's analyze the powers that make Yhwach one of the strongest villains in the history of anime and manga.

Soul Distribution: Yhwach's Innate Ability

As a baby, Yhwach could not see, hear, smell or move, but those around him still revered him as a god. This is because those who touched Yhwach received a fragment of his soul and were healed of all injuries and impurities in exchange for their lifespan being shortened. These fragments were augmented by the experiences of their recipients, and upon death returned to Yhwach and empowered him, allowing him to regain his lost senses and mobility. As an adult, Yhwach enhances this ability by engraving a letter designating an ability, or Schrift, into each of the fragments and having the recipient drink his blood. When the fragment returns to Yhwach, he receives their Schrift as well, further increasing his power and arsenal of abilities

Yhwach's distribution ability is the exact opposite of other Quincy, as instead of draining Reishi from the environment, Yhwach disperses his own spirit to those around him. Though this process of distribution and reabsorption must be repeated in order to sustain himself, if need be Yhwach can forcibly revoke his distributed soul through the Auswählen technique. The Auswählen sees Yhwach summon a pillar of light that completely destroys a Quincy on contact, their energy and abilities redistributed to other Quincy or Yhwach himself. These exclusive abilities are why Yhwach's status as Father of the Quincy is uncontested, as even the most powerful of Quincy abilities are born from his own, and thus belong to him.

Aside from his exclusive powers, Yhwach can also use all standard Quincy abilities including the offensive and defensive enhancement maneuver known as Blut and Reishi manipulation techniques. Yhwach can manifest the Reishi that he collects as standard Quincy arrows and can even fire them without a bow, with his standard weapon actually being a sword. Yhwach's talent in manipulation is further demonstrated by his concocting of a thrown prior to his final battle with Ichigo. Yhwach is also a master of the Quincy high-speed movement technique Hirenkyaku, easily out-speeding the likes of Yamamoto and Ichigo and catching them off guard.

Immense Spiritual Pressure and Abilities Post-Soul King Absorption

Yhwach's immense spiritual pressure is undeniable. He is the only Quincy capable of stealing Captain Commander Yamamoto's Bankai, a feat that demands spiritual pressure at least comparable to that of Yamamoto himself, and can even absorb and completely subjugate the power of the Soul King.

After absorbing the Soul King, Yhwach's spiritual pressure increases dramatically to the point of him possessing amounts in excess. His spiritual pressure alone is enough to level structures in Soul Society and blast away enemies. He also gains the ability to erect barriers that can defend against the attacks of captain and lieutenant level Shinigami. Yhwach, when combined with the Soul King, is stated to be powerful enough to assimilate worlds, an ability necessitated by Yhwach's primary goal of returning the world to its original state by joining Soul Society, Hueco Mundo and the World of the Living. His fusion with the Soul King also drastically enhances the ability of his personal Schrift "A", The Almighty.

Schrift "A", The Almighty

Yhwach's Schrift is "A", The AlmightyThe first ability granted to Yhwach by The Almighty is precognition. Yhwach can see and know everything from the present into the distant future, a phenomena he equates to viewing multiple "grains of sand" each displaying a possible future. Yhwach can assess all of these futures simultaneously, allowing him to prepare for and counter any and all possibilities that can occur in battle. His precognitive abilities are so powerful that even Ichigo in his final form was rendered powerless. Yhwach states that Ichigo's hope was changing the future mid-battle, and this still wasn't enough to stifle The Almighty's clairvoyance. Against Zero Squad's Ichibē Hyōsube, Yhwach reveals that any ability he sees and comes to understand while using the Almighty's precognition becomes his ally, nullifying its power and rendering it useless against him.

The power to see the future is already enough to make Yhwach a humongous threat, but the true ability of the Almighty is not to gaze into the future, but to alter it. Yhwach can manipulate and rewrite any of the futures that he views, and cherry pick them into reality. For example, before Ichigo can even activate his Bankai, Yhwach brings forth a future in which he has broken Ichigo's sword and makes it the reality for Ichigo in the present. Yhwach can even rewrite futures in which he dies, and can bring a version of himself that is alive into the present if killed.

The power of the Almighty, his immense spiritual pressure and arsenal of Schrifts elevate Yhwach to omnipotent levels and make him virtually unbeatable. Yhwach's only weakness is his own arrogance, but when you're as strong as he is, it's hard not to bask in your own glory.
