Do you like archer characters, such as Legolas the elf, Robin Hood, or perhaps Kagome from InuYasha? The bow is a romanticized weapon of elegant long-ranged combat, and even the sword-heavy Shonen series Bleach makes room for the bow and arrow. Enter Uryu Ishida, a quincy who can manifest spirit bows to hunt hollows.

Uryu can conjure not only the most powerful quincy bows and arrows, but also use explosives and energy-stealing swords to get the edge on his opponent. Like most quincy, Uryu can break down and absorb spirit energy from his surroundings, and his clever mind can get him out of nearly any bind. So, let's pit him against ten powerful fighters from other anime series, and see which he can defeat... and which would get the last laugh!

10 Can Defeat: Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

While Envy can shapeshift into other people, and his true form is a giant dog-lizard critter, his combat power really doesn't stack up well against Uryu Ishida. Bear in mind that Envy is arrogant (to hide his secret envy of humanity), and he relies on blunt melee attacks. That's not going to cut it.

In a battle, Uryu can use hirenkyaku (a rapid movement technique) to slide away from any melee attack that Envy makes, and use devastating arrow volleys to pummel Envy's body. And yes, Envy can regenerate, but Uryu would soon seek out the source of Envy's regenerative power... and remove it! He's a smart fighter; he'll definitely root out that philosopher's stone sooner or later.

9 Can't Defeat: Dio Brando (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

The hit anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is packed with fearsome warriors who wield stands, or physical avatars of their combat abilities. Dio Brando is a vampire who can use The World, which is not only a devastating melee fighter, but the master of time!

Dio is tough and quick, and he'd break even against Uryu at first. But once Dio activates The World's time-freezing power, it's all over. Uryu has zero countermeasures for such an ability, and Dio could behead Uryu or snap his neck at leisure.

8 Can Defeat: Eren Jaeger (Attack On Titan)

Eren from Attack On Titan looking concerned

Eren has the power of the Attack Titan, a massive humanoid with pointed ears and some mean combat power. How does he stack up against the master archer Uryu Ishida? If Uryu can get the drop on him, he could disable or even kill Eren with a single arrow, before the Titan ever enters play.

If the Titan does come out, Uryu might find a way to slice open the nape of its neck, and cut Eren out. The Attack Titan can't possibly keep up with Uryu's hirenkyaku, and Uryu could disable the Titan's tendons to slow it down further. And with those explosives on his utility belt, Uryu could really bring the hurt to a crippled Eren!

7 Can't Defeat: Lieutenant Hinawa (Fire Force)

This man is a firefighter, and while he spends most of his time fighting Infernals or the white-robed cultists, he could certainly fight on par with Uryu Ishida in a long-ranged duel. Hinawa is fast and quick-witted, and his bullets are even faster.

Being a pyrokinetic, Hinawa can control flames, and in particular, he controls the explosive gunpowder of the pistols he carries around. With this ability, Hinawa can alter the trajectory of bullets in mid-flight, and thus strike opponents from an unexpected angle. Hinawa did this to great effect in Fire Force, and it would surely work against Uryu. What's hirenkyaku against the speed of bullets?

6 Can Defeat: Fumikage Tokoyami (My Hero Academia)

This bird-headed boy is one of the most talented members of hero class 1-A, and he was a semi-finalist in the Sports Festival, losing only to Katsuki Bakugo. His quirk, Dark Shadow, can deliver a serious beating and shield Fumikage from harm.

But Dark Shadow can't be everywhere at once, and Uryu is capable of striking from many angles at once. With ease, Uryu can fire 1,200 arrows in a massive volley, and Dark Shadow would be hard-pressed to block them all. Besides, hirenkyaku is too fast for Dark Shadow to keep up with, so Uryu would be safe while wearing down Fumikage in a duel.

5 Can't Defeat: Katsuki Bakugo (My Hero Academia)

Bakugo Katsuki in MHA

We've already mentioned him, so let's bring him out to battle. Katsuki Bakugo's quirk allows him to sweat nitroglycerin and set it off in massive explosions from his hands. His grenade-shaped gauntlets allow him to fire that quirk even more accurately and safely.

As we saw in Bakugo's duel with Ochaco, he has no problem deflecting many projectiles at once, and his explosions grow more powerful as he fights. He would blast away any arrow volleys Uryu could fire, and Bakugo is clever enough to come up with a counter-strategy. Bakugo just might win, and even if he can't quite catch Uryu, the quincy would soon make a tactical retreat.

4 Can Defeat: The Goblin Slayer (Goblin slayer)

The main cast of Goblin Slayer anime

He's the titular character of this popular fantasy anime, and his skills and equipment can see him through any battle against any number of those green-skinned monsters. He's practical and always brings the right weapons and armor for the job, and his party can take down any goblin nest, no sweat.

Being so narrow would be his downfall against Uryu, though, and he has no meaningful answer for Uryu's arrow volleys and extreme speed. The goblin slayer would block some arrows and retreat, or he'd catch an arrow to the face (through those slits in the helmet) and meet an early end!

3 Can't Defeat: Wrath (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

wrath fullmetal alchemist

Uryu can handle Envy, but he can he handle another homunculus by the name of Wrath? Probably not! This swordsman is a combat master, having incredible reflexes and speed, and his Ultimate Eye lets him see through any attack.

Most likely, Wrath would make a quick approach while evading Uryu's arrows, then start swinging. Uryu is quick with that hirenkyaku, but Wrath can outlast him thanks to regeneration and land a blow sooner or later. He's faster and more precise than Envy, and that makes all the difference.

2 Can Defeat: Joseph Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Joseph Joestar looking smug.

This will be a close one, since Joseph Joestar is creative and innovative in battle and delivers a mean punch with hamon/ripple. But Uryu is also perceptive and clever in battle, and that allows him to fight on par with Joseph in that arena.

Meanwhile, Uryu has the edge in combat power with his superior speed and his ranged arrow attacks. Joseph may dodge some of them, but not all, and he's got no chance of landing a punch on Uryu before going down. Yes, Joseph defeated the Pillar Men, but they didn't have Uryu's speed, range, and wits!

1 Can't Defeat: Genos (One-Punch Man)

Uryu has really met his match this time! Genos relies on technology to fuel his combat power rather than magic energy, so Uryu can't steal any energy like he does against other magical or spiritual enemies.

Genos also has the edge because he's quick, tough, and can use explosions and massive firepower like Katsuki Bakugo does. So, Genos could blast away Uryu's arrow volleys, Bakugo style, and catch Uryu in a devastating long-range follow-up!
