Kon, short for Kaizo Konpaku, is a Mod Soul in Bleach. His soul is in the shape of a pill, which Ichigo Kurosaki, the protagonist of the series, swallows in order to have Kon occupy his body while his Shinigami form is out fighting Hollows. This is convenient because otherwise, Ichigo's human body would be in a death-like state.

When not taking charge of Ichigo's human body, Kon usually looks like a stuffed lion. Due to this comical form, Kon quickly became the comic relief of the series. Like most comic relief characters, there are times when his jokes are enjoyable and other times when his presence is more annoying than funny.

10 GREAT: The Boo-Boo Cushion Scene

Kon uses the Boo boo cushion on Ichigo Kurosaki

Strangely enough, Kon's most memorable scene is in an arc that is notoriously known for being one of Bleach's worst filler arcs. Ichigo is in a room full of people, about to have a serious discussion, but he sits down on a cushion that creates a deafening farting noise. What makes the scene even better are the horrified expressions on everyone's faces, and it appears that the sound came from Ichigo himself until Kon dances in and soaks up his supposed victory.

9 AWFUL: Getting Bullied By Blanks

Blanks gather around Kon

Rukia spends the beginning of Bleach: Memories of Nobody stressing how important Kon is because Ichigo did not swallow Kon's pill form. He used his substitute shinigami badge to leave his body, and people assumed his body was dead and called an ambulance, making a big scene.

However, when Ichigo does give Kon control of his human body, Kon proceeds to get swarmed by Blanks for absolutely no reason, and they decide to attack him. Sadly, in that one scenario, Ichigo's body may have been safer without Kon.

8 GREAT: His Cosplays

Kon in a frilly dress and a sailor moon outfit

Kon, in his search for love after getting bullied and stepped on most of the time, finds himself getting some attention from Yuzu. Although she takes the time to clean him, she dresses him up in pink, frilly dresses that he finds demeaning. Unfortunately, he can never express his displeasure to her since stuffed animals aren't supposed to be able to talk. When she's not dressing him up, Uryu Ishida is the one putting him in dresses, which Kon responds to by throwing a tantrum. The outfits are adorable, but his reactions to the costumes are priceless.

7 AWFUL: He's Constantly Chasing After Women

Rukia kicks Kon in the face

This stuffed lion becomes infatuated with every woman he lays eyes on, but his attempts to get close to them are questionable at best. His persistence is far from admirable, and although he has shown that he does have a good heart, most of the punishments he receives are well deserved. His attachment to Rukia makes sense because she saved his life, but leaping towards her and getting on her nerves is a poor way to show his gratitude.

6 GREAT: The Kiss Scene

Rukia forces Kon to kiss Ichigo

One of Tite Kubo's most intricately drawn scenes is the one where Kon's soul pill is forced into Ichigo's unconscious body by Rukia. It's a kiss he never wanted to partake in, but he needed to take Ichigo's place in order to avoid worrying his family, as well as to protect them. Kon is willing to keep the family safe, but the kiss is displayed as a warrior's noble sacrifice, as manly characters scream in agony in the background and even shed tears as Kon despairs at his cruel fate.

5 AWFUL: Running Around In A White Suit & Cape As Karakuraizer

Kon flustered as Ishida looks smug

Urahara creates a suit for Kon so that he can fight any hollows in Karakura town while Ichigo fights the Arrancar in Hueco Mundo. These episodes feel out of place, considering the fact that Ichigo is risking his life to save a friend while Kon is running around in a white suit and cape after Urahara gave him the supposed (and entirely incorrect) incentive of being able to attract a lot of women. It's a comical arc, but like most filler arcs, it doesn't seem to be very meaningful.

4 GREAT: He Never Forgot Rukia

Kon talking to Ichigo in his hollow mask

For a short period of time, Kon was the only one who remembered Rukia Kuchiki in Bleach: Fade To Black. A couple of hollows had severed everyone's memory of her, yet Kon had to be the one to remind Ichigo that Rukia was the one who saved their lives.

When Ichigo is about to give up on saving Rukia in the middle of the movie, Kon was the one who encouraged him to save her by telling him off and claiming that if Ichigo wouldn't try to save her, he would save her himself.

3 AWFUL: He Is Useless In The Bount Arc

Ririn whispers to Kon

Kon is sadly the most useful in the Bount arc when he becomes a backpack for Ichigo and his friends, holding a piece of string that allows them to better perceive their surroundings. When the other Mod Souls are introduced, he becomes jealous and he appears to be vastly inferior to them, as they each have their own unique powers. The Mod Souls eventually team up to create traps for the Bounts, but those aren't very useful either.

2 GREAT: His Introduction As A Complex Character

Ichigo confronting Kon about his reckless behavior

When Kon was first introduced to the series, he appeared to be a complex character. He reveled in his newfound freedom, acting like a child because he finally had a chance to experience the world. He seemed to cherish all forms of life, no matter how small. He also proved himself to be rather selfless, protecting children from a hollow and even risking his life to keep the hollow from landing on a line of ants. This made it especially touching when Rukia decides to save his life.

1 AWFUL: Muscular Kon

Kon in his muscular form

Fans did not realize how horrifying a muscular Kon would be until the grotesque image of him was burned into their eyeballs. Throughout The Thousand Year Blood War arc, Kon is either being used as a communication device or as an inflatable cushion for Ichigo and his friends. He has to take the brunt of each landing and quickly deflates soon after. With this kind of function, Kon has essentially become a talking airbag with enough force to knock out Ichigo at one point. There's really no reason for him to look so buff.
