Blade's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut may be pushed back a few months from its original start date, at least in terms of filming.

The Cosmic Circus disputed an original report from the Film & Television Industry Alliance's productionlist.com about a July start date for production on the upcoming Blade reboot starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. Instead, the outlet reports that shooting has been pushed back from its original July start date to sometime in the fall. Filming is reportedly set to take place at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, GA, with possible locations in New Orleans, LA, and Morocco. No reason for the production delays was specified.

Created by Marv Wolfman, Eric Brooks/Blade made his debut in Marvel Comics' The Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973). Born in a Soho brothel, Brooks' mother, Tara, suffered severe labor complications when she was killed by her vampire doctor, Deacon Frost. Though he survived his birth, Brooks inherited vampire genes, making him half-vampire. With all the vampire abilities and none of their weaknesses, including vulnerability to daylight, Brooks devoted his life as Blade to rid the world of the undead. Blade has been associated with such groups as the Nightstalkers and the Midnight Sons, the former alongside Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider.

The character became popularized on the big screen when '90s action icon Wesley Snipes took on the Daywalker role in 1998's Blade. It was the first successful Marvel film adaptation theatrically released and grossed $131 million worldwide. The film spawned two sequels, 2002's Blade II directed by Guillermo del Toro and 2004's Blade Trinity directed by the trilogy's screenwriter, David S. Goyer. While the original Blade predated more successful Marvel adaptations of X-Men and Spider-Man, fans of the Blade trilogy have been frustrated by its erasure in the wake of the MCU's success.

With Ali taking command of the lead role and director Bassem Tariq at the helm, fans are concerned about a watered-down PG-13 take on the legendary vampire hunter. But original Blade star Snipes believes that an R rating for Blade is not necessary for the reboot to be successful. "I think those kinds of stories lend themselves to a wide range of dialogue and situations. Both adult and young adult," said Snipes. "I don't know, it seems like the R-rating and PG-13 base is sliding now because it seems that now the 13-year-olds can speak better words than the adults can. As long as it's true and organic to the subject matter, the plot, and the world that's created. If there's consistency, I think it's fine [to be PG-13]."

Marvel Studios' Blade reportedly begins filming this fall. There is no official release date yet.
