Filming on Black Widow wrapped back in October and since then, fans had been eagerly awaiting the release of the teaser trailer. However, rather than teasing a trailer release like usual, Marvel Studios surprised everyone -- including the film's leading lady -- when it dropped the first trailer ahead of the studio's appearance at Brazil's Comic Con Experience.

The first teaser trailer, which was released on Tuesday last week, gave a better insight as to how the long-awaited solo film may impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. Still, as surprising as the trailer was, the studio's release strategy was all the more surprising. Especially since the film's star Scarlett Johansson wasn't even aware the trailer was coming out. During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Johansson explained that she actually found out about the trailer's release from a fellow Marvel actor. "Nobody told me that it was coming out."

"I actually woke up and I got a text message from Chris Evans," she explained. "And he was like 'The trailer looks great.' I don't know what he was doing up at five AM, that's a whole other story... But yeah, I was also as excited as everybody else. I had no idea it was coming out."

A Black Widow film has been in the works for some time, with Lionsgate originally developing a solo film back in 2004 with David Hayter slated to write and direct the feature. Eventually, though, the rights reverted to Marvel Studios and since then, a Black Widow film has been a hot topic, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige often indicating it would all come down to the right time for a Black Widow solo flick.

While Natasha's future within the MCU is non-existent following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it seems the film will play an important part in setting up the MCU's future.
