Black Widow's Taskmaster is trending online, but not because fans love the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe villain.

Black Widow is finally out in theaters and Disney+ premiere access, which means fans can discover who exactly is under Taskmaster's helmet, an identity that has been kept secret throughout the film's promotion. However, the MCU villain is currently trending on Twitter after thousands of fans voiced their disappointment in how the character was handled.

"The biggest gripe I had was Taskmaster," Twitter user and YouTuber David Cage said of Black Widow. "I don't like what they did to that character. Such a cool villain wasted imo."

Several users also compared the MCU's Taskmaster to the character's depiction in PlayStation's Marvel's Spider-Man. According to user The Moonlight Warrior, Taskmaster received "more depth and character development in the side missions of Spider-Man PS4 than in the entire runtime of Black Widow..." Twitter user @addyvit even included Black Widow's Taskmaster in the ranks of villains like Steppenwolf from the original 2017 Justice League and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool from 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Up until Black Widow's release, the first of the MCU's Phase 4 feature films, Taskmaster's identity had been kept tightly under wraps. Several character posters were released ahead of the premiere, featuring the film's cast and their respective characters. Since the villain's identity is a major plot twist, Taskmaster's poster was the only one that did not include the name of the actor portraying them.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff. The film is now playing in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access.
