The numbers are in and they show that Black Widow enjoyed a monumental Pandemic-era opening weekend, managing to beat the box office take of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker in its opening.
Black Widow's opening figures showed that the Marvel Studios film grossed $215 million over the weekend, with $60 million coming from its release on Disney+ Premiere Access alone. Its domestic earnings of $80 million make it the largest opening since The Rise of Skywalker's opening weekend, which saw the Star Wars film take in $176 million.
The first film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe marks actor Scarlett Johansson's final appearance as the superspy. Black Widow takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The film introduces the Red Room and the existence of other widows, such as Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh. The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
