Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have offered their opinions on a Black Widow film, describing the potential Marvel Studios project as "crazy exciting."
"Yeah, we're very happy for that. I mean, it's such a rich and interesting character," Joe Russo told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "There's so much to explore with a character whose history was as a villain, and you know, Scarlett does such a good job of playing that character and people are so used to that character and people are so used to that character that you forget the character's history, and so there's a lot of compelling stories to tell about someone who has a dark past."
Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Marvel is developing a solo film focused on Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, with a targeted release date of 2020. The character debuted in 2010's Iron Man 2, with Johansson set to reprise the role for a sixth time in May with Infinity War. The Russos have already worked with Johansson on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Infinity War.
Black Widow will next appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, among others. The film opens May 4.
