Black Widow Film's Villain Breakdown Offers New Clues

MCU Black Widow

While not much is known yet about Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow movie, details are trickling out about the film’s potential lead villain.

It was previously reported that the villain was to be played by a man in his 40s, and the character was said to be “exciting.” This left the door open for speculation that the villain might be Taskmaster or Red Guardian.

But now, according to That Hashtag Show, rewrites of the script by Ned Benson paint a different picture of who the movie’s villain may be. It appears that Benson’s rewrites have likely made some noteworthy changes to the film’s lead characters, while removing others.

A number of those changes seem to have been made to the lead villain, and in a way that could shine some light on his identity. The studio is now looking for a “Black British or African” actor, aged 30-45, to fill the role. And the character is now described as “tough, dangerous and mysterious.”

This seems to rule out Red Guardian, as the Russian character likely wouldn’t have a British accent. While Taskmaster is still a possibility, it’s really anyone’s guess at this point.

Black Widow is expected to be a prequel similar to Captain Marvel, detailing how Natasha Romanova operated as a spy for the KGB before defecting to S.H.I.E.L.D. The film is believed to start production by late February or early March.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow is expected to released May 1, 2020.
