Black Widow Film Reportedly in Development

Marvel Studios may have plans for Natasha Romanov. The studio has reportedly tapped Blacklist screenwriter Jac Shaeffer to write Black Widow, a solo movie focusing on Scarlett Johansson's Marvel Cinematic Universe character. The news stems from a source who approached TheWrap.

Fans have clamored see Johansson's Avenger finally star in her own feature and this development, if true, is a stride in the right direction. Black Widow first appeared in Iron Man 2 and resurfaced in 2012's Avengers; since then, she has appeared in subsequent MCU films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.

Kevin Feige has been vocal about bringing a Black Widow movie into fruition, but -- even with Marvel's huge slate of 20 unannounced movies -- it never seemed likely. Now, it looks like there is a chance that Black Widow is indeed included in said slate. The character is set to return in Avengers: Infinity War.

Shaeffer wrote Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, a 22-minute film spinning out of Frozen; the short ran before Pixar's Coco in its opening weeks. She has a few other projects in the works, including The Shower starring Anne Hathaway and Nasty Women, which will star both Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.
