Black Widow screenwriter Eric Pearson almost put a reference to Doctor Doom's home country of Latveria in the Marvel Studios film.

While speaking with IGN, Pearson discussed how he enjoyed putting Easter eggs into his films, despite still not being sure how they're decided on from an executive level. "I might've had a reference to Latveria in there -- I might have, but I don't think so. I don't think that lasted very long," he explained. "I'm always trying to throw Latveria into stuff. ... It's like one of those things where you want to be the first one to say it on an Instagram post or something!"

While the Laveria nod never came to fruition, one of Pearson's Easter eggs did make the cut. During the dinner scene, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova refers to David Harbour's Red Guardian as the "Crimson Dynamo," who's the Russian answer to Iron and a part of the larger Avengers-like Winter Guard.

"I'm not sure if they do or do not exist," Pearson said. "Weirdly, I remembered the Crimson Dyanmo [while writing]. That was a pure callback from having read comics as a kid. And the idea of just someone calling him the wrong superhero name, I just put that in there. Whenever I'm writing for one of these, I always try to add in extra references, just in case an Easter Egg works."

"In this one, I remember writing the dialogue, knowing [the character]," Pearson continued. "I did a quick check to be like, 'I am thinking of a Marvel character, not a DC character?' I was like, 'Yep. It was Marvel. I'm just putting it in.' And then it never got flagged. And I think it gets a pretty good laugh too."

Crimson Dynamo isn't the only Winter Guard member whose presence is felt in Black WidowMutant Ursa Major makes a cameo in the film as well, arm-wrestling Red Guardian in prison.

Black Widow is now in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access.
