Marvel Studios delayed Black Widow, but fans won't have to wait long to learn more about Natasha Romanoff's family history.

On Nov. 3, Titan Comics released Marvel's Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book, which provided an in-depth look at the upcoming Marvel film. In the book, actor David Harbour revealed how his character, Alexei the Red Guardian, is related to Avenger's hero, Romanoff, and provided some details on how they first met.

"Now, the connection to him and Black Widow is that they were set up as a spy family in America in the '90s," Harbour said. "So, Rachel Weisz's character, Melina, was sort of the mom, Alexei was the dad and Natasha and Yelena were their little kids. We see that in the beginning of the movie, and they sort of function as a family."

The Stranger Things star went on the explain that this spy family knew each other "from long ago" and had lost touch for nearly twenty years. "And when we pick up, Alexei's had this deep knowledge of Natasha in a certain way that no one else had when she was a kid," Harbour said. "He took her from the Red Room and also put her back into the Red Room because he believed in this cause."

Black Widow was originally scheduled to hit theaters May 1, 2020. However, the closure of movie theaters due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced Marvel Studios to push back the film's release date to 2021.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz. The film is currently planned to arrive in theaters May 7, 2021.
