Earlier this week, actor Mark Ruffalo revealed that the relationship between Black Widow and his character Bruce Banner was akin to a star-crossed romance. He even teased that Avengers: Infinity War would continue to explore the connection between the two characters. But, like any complicated relationship, it seems we might be getting some mixed signals.

During a set visit interview with Screen Rant, actress Scarlett Johanssen offered her own take on the relationship, and how it might have reached an end off-camera. "She’s not a particularly sentimental person and I think she understands that it’s been a period of time," the actress told Screen Rant. "They’ve both had their own experiences separate of one another, and will always have a shared experience with one another but again, a lot of time has passed."

"I think they both kind of needed to see this sort of heroic decision the last time they saw one another, that they were going to sacrifice their own personal desire for the greater good," Johanssen continued. "And that’s happened and move on."

Clearly, the actress indicates that her character has moved on from this romance, and that the Hulk's decision to leave for Sakaar at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron was effectively the close of the kindred relationship between the two.
