In every installment of “If I Pass This Way Again,” we look at comic book plot points that were rarely (sometimes NEVER!) mentioned again after they were first introduced.

Today, we look at how Black Widow once had boots that allowed her to float on the air and then just stopped using them.

In Amazing Spider-Man #86 (by Stan Lee, John Romita and Jim Mooney), the Black Widow debuted a new costume designed by the brilliant John Romita (one of the greatest superhero costume designers of all-time)...

The costume re-design was part of her launch into her own ongoing feature in Amazing Adventures (which she split with the Inhumans). Gary Friedrich, John Buscema and John Verpoorten were the creative team and Friedrich added a new wrinkle to the costume design...

She now had anti-gravity boots that allowed her to walk up walls...

However, Friedrich really didn't actually DO anything with that concept and when other writers took over the feature, they just had Widow solely use her widow's line to travel...

When Gerry Conway brought Black Widow to the pages of Daredevil, that continued. There were no mention of her anti-gravity boots...

Years later, Frank Miller re-designed her costume and it now had a special suction ability that allowed her to stick to walls, as seen in Daredevil #187...

And THAT has been how she sticks to walls ever since, which is fine, but, like, if you had boots that allowed you to float in the air, why would you ever stop using them? Perhaps a future writer will bring them back!
