With Black Widow's solo film rumored to hit theaters next year, a new report reveals that Moonlight star André Holland might be in the running to play the movie's main villain.
According to That Hashtag Show, Holland was one of the actors to read for the role, and his audition caught Marvel Studios' attention, as they were allegedly hoping to find a powerful, confident actor who could pull off smart and sexy. It was also reported that Marvel is also looking into casting older male and female supporting roles, with those characters possibly working with the film's main villain.
In a recent breakdown of the film's villain, new clues were offered up about the character. The enigmatic character is described as "tough, dangerous, and mysterious," which doesn't narrow it down by much. Production will reportedly take place in Croatia and Miami as well as the United Kingdom, which would see Natasha Romanoff's globetrotting adventures following in the footsteps of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Directed by Cate Shortland with a script by Ned Benson, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, and is rumored to be released on May 1, 2020. The film is expected to be a prequel like Captain Marvel and may explore the character's background before she joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.
