Many shows rely on having an overpowered protagonist. Kelvin, the protagonist for Black Summoner, is fairly similar at first glance. Looking into his stat details however, we can see that he’s not exactly like others and does have some specific traits not normally included in these characters' arsenals.
Kelvin has been reincarnated into a new world because of an accident involving another God. There aren’t many details of what led up to this, but what fans do know is that he’s made a connection with the Goddess of Reincarnation, Melfina. She tells him early on that he confessed to her upon their first meeting and boldly asked her to be his first summonable companion. She agreed because she was bored and intrigued. However, Kelvin can't summon her just yet.

This is an interesting twist on other isekai, where you find that the God or Goddess is dragged along with the protagonist against their wishes. Generally, the protagonist will be able to have one request, and it will typically be to make the summoner miserable by having them come with. In this story it’s a refreshing take that the Goddess wanted to come along with the protagonist. Unfortunately, this does make it highly likely that there will be ample fan service and a possible harem in the future.
Unlike other Isekai where protagonists know their past lives and keep the memories of them, Kelvin has none. Instead, he bartered away his memories in exchange for better stats and abilities. He’s not even sure that he actually confessed to the goddess but has no choice but to take her word for it. In other isekai, the protagonists generally find out that they’ve been blessed with stats rather than having had the ability to choose them. Kelvin having chosen his own could prove his character is a genius because of which ones he boosted from the get go.

His first experience with a guild mission has him fighting blue slimes, similar to many other early dungeoning quests in isekai. What’s different is that he can tame them and make them a summonable creature. Once Kelvin tames these monsters, he uses them to battle instead of doing it himself, kind of like trainers in Pokémon. His enrollment at the guild is also a very similar set up to other isekai.
With all these stat boosts it surely means that he’s going to be an epically overpowered fighter. What remains to be seen is if he’s going to regret not having the memories of his past life. For all he knows, he could have been reincarnated into the exact same place he was before. Fans still don't know if he's supposed to be some kind of hero in this world.
